"WILD" GAME
BEER DINNER

GAH Logo
Dear Friends,

You are getting this email if you are enlisted for lunch specials, newsletter or Run For A Beer.  You won't be getting many of these, but I wanted the world to know what was up at the Ale House - it's a lot!

Thanks!

Now on to my intro...

It gets cold and it gets busy, this fall of ours.  Our energy rises (right?) and the lassitude of wilting and hazy July days is but a difficult-to-believe memory.  The vibe that replaces hot, hot summer is so full of potential and anticipation that I must admit, although summer is by far and for real, my favorite season, I never feel more alive than I do right now, when green goes to rainbow and the chill air tightens my skin.  It is bright and blue and cool out there and we are helpless to slow as we slide toward the night of the year.  What's a bloke to do but throw on a few extra sweaters and plan for some good indoor fun? I'll leave the hiking and climbing to you burlier types and I will sleep during the day and plan for the night.

Wild Game

Are you familiar with the feasts of Bacchus?  Perhaps you have heard of Dyonisian orgies.  They are both the same or similar god, of course, just one Greek, the other Roman, representing wine and "divine madness".  These stories of orgies and feasts might elicit images of diners grasping whole legs of turkey in one hand, goblet in the other, perhaps questionably or scantily dressed, belching all around.  However, more erudite accounting of the Dyonisian mysteries might include powerful, dazed and intoxicated women ripping the limbs off of men and simply enjoying themselves in so doing as they strut their power over them.  (I don't make this stuff up!)

We, of course, will dispense with any limbing of men at our ritual as we take a more sober attitude to our feast of gourmet beer and food.  However, animal limbs do figure prominently as we design to feast on the gamier of this earth's a-plenty.

You want a menu?  So do I.  Please wait while we get one.

To The Deck!

After more than 1 and 1/2 years of planning and struggling and appearing before boards, judges and deputies - not to mention considerable public attention to what must have appeared to be a floundering project - the Ale House deck is open for business.

And wouldn't you know, the day we announce the opening of the deck, the heavens, as if waiting for some off stege Q, open up on poor Gardner, letting loose drops and drops that were clearly saved for this moment.  And, after 4 or so days of rain, it just got plain cold.  I sat out there, several time, by myself, enjoying a beer in the cold.

It was interesting for me to note that I have been asked this one question more than any other: How do you get to the deck?  This statement, of course, reveals that many of you are dining room dwellers, not familiar with the pub.  Hence, I am greatly pleased to hear this question again and again as people discover the other half of this amazing establishment.  Which way to the deck? - it is a song to me.

October is an unlikely time to open a deck.  It was that or leave it closed till next year - uh uh.  We have had some nice days, like yesterday, Columbus day, and the deck was humming.

Thanks for waiting!

Ah Ciao!

Well, I hope you have learned something from this kid who used to like to write, like, every week, and now manages something a little less than seasonally.  It's not that my muse is gone or broken, rather this place has gotten a little needy and is starting to sprout in places unexpected.  It's all good, really good, really very good - just a little daunting.

This Ale House is becoming an amazing place and it takes so many people to run it and I am very glad to be working with all of them and serving all of Greater Gardner's grandest folks.

My job rocks.

ciao

Thanks for being there.

Our New Drink List

We got a little tired of some of our specialty drinks and started playing around with some ideas.  We aren't even done, but we had to put a stake in the sand somewhere.

So we have Sweet Rita, a margarita made with lemonade;

And there's Huckleberry Lemonade made with 44 North Huckleberry Vodka and served in a mason jar;

We have a surprising Indian Apple, a Naked Pear and we have finalized our very exciting sangrias, a Tall Red and a Tall White; both sweet.

And that's not all, you have to come in to see the rest.

Shhhh...

I'm working on a drink right now that is for me maybe the best thing I have ever tasted.  It's a take-off on a margarita.  It's made with a shot of Patron (or any higher-end tequila), a 1/2 shot of Cointreau and a 1/2 shot of Grand Marnier.  No sour mix.  Served over ice.  It is a miracle.

Gluten Free? We Have That!
