 | | My Femme Fatale |
Friends, You Don't Have To Read This!
In miscellaneous moments of gratuitous reflection, and when my children are in attendance, (my wife within earshot), I am sometimes moved to pour forth, for the benefit of those young ears not yet seasoned by too many years (about once a week). At such times, and with a bit of theatre, I just might present my kids with the following advice - delivered with some cheek and irreverence - garnered from long attention to my life:
I say, (dreary eyed, teary eyed and smelling bad):
"Don't ever get married." (My 11-year-old son is down with this.)
Next, I say:
"Now, if you do get married; don't ever have kids." This may seem like cruel advice to the kids, but they take it in, kind of cross-eyed, figuring daddy still loves them and means something else.
Moving on:
"If you do get married, and have kids, don't ever buy a restaurant." They are all easily in line with this - "Duh dad."
Recent addition:
"However, if you do get married, and have kids and buy a restaurant, don't compete in a down hill gravity race known as the chair luge, in front of your restaurant, thinking you can hang with folks from the 'hood'."
And so runs the string of my mistakes, I imply, by my advice to my kids.
Not born yesterday, nor even very recently, they realize, I think, that my advice is upside down, on the sly, you know; the ol' 'fake left, go right'. And so they understand that daddy's crazy, but good crazy and happy with his life's decisions, with the exception of that downhill gravity race, which he really does regret.
So, perhaps a bit prematurely (this kind of reflection is normally reserved for the new year), I look back and am glad, to have made such decisions and to find myself in the midst of a remarkable community, at Christmas time, right here in Gardner. However, breaking a leg sucks.

John Lennon Night

Featuring The PLASTIC JUNO BAND
Saturday, Dec. 8, 1980, no 2012
Players: Brian Chaffee, Sarah Clark, Keith Clark, Ben Benjamin, Michael Moisin, Rob Thompson and CRISTOBAL!! (Chris Boutell)
How many times have you seen me write, "This is my favorite night of the year!"? Well, I'm not going to deny that these words might have slipped by my typing fingers when referring to some other night, HOWEVER, I really mean it for John Lennon Night. This night grew out of a love for Lennon music and the wishes it conveys. Each year that we get together to pound out these songs (Beatles songs, too), the pub takes on an energy unlike any other night. This was especially clear at last year's celebration. This year it is a Saturday, exactly 32 years since Lennon's death, in which older and younger alike fill the pub and recall another time, perhaps wistfully. Please join us.

| Ah Ciao! |
As much as I am a people person and face time means more than anything else, I have just increased your ability to not be here when shopping for a gift card. You can now shop online! Note, that although your online request is still routed through Texas (where our internet server farm lives), you are still buying local when you purchase Ale House gift cards online. PayPal does get some, but most of it stays in Gardner, hey.
Thanks for being there and reading all this stuff.

William Hill,
Chardonnay 2011
(Central Coast, CA)
Straight off of our wine list available every day, we are featuring this high-end
Chardonnay in order to bring attention to what we think is a darn fine wine.
Well-balanced with flavors of tree fruit, spice and tropical citrus with notes of vanilla.
Enjoy by the bottle $27 or by the glass $7.50
How can you resist that? And if you don't finish the bottle, you get to take it home, just like with all our bottles of wine. We have special bags, which are state approved, for transporting opened bottles of wine. Cool.
