WILD GAME!
Dear Ale House Types,

With Summer so far behind as to not even be rememberable and with an ambitious looking winter standing squarely in our way, it's down to business for most of us. And at the Ale House, business is pleasure, your pleasure. Never mix the two? That's what we do!

A series of Ale House events help to pave the way through a darkening season culminating in Christmas and the New Year. Of course we can talk about the Beach Party, but that would be hasty now, wouldn't it?

This Friday, is the Halloween Party with CAVES ON MARS and $400 in cash prizes and a free buffet. Things get started around 9:30 PM. Looky here for more on that.

Wednesday, Nov. 7 is the deadline for Thanksgiving Harvest Homebrew Competition submissions. Here's your link for that.

Thursday, Nov. 8 is our Wild Game Beer Dinner. It turns out that this is our most popular dinner of the three or four we do each year. Something about duck, venison, elk, rabbit and the like seems to bring out the, until-now-asleep, enterprising predator in us all. The season grows dark and we grow hungry. Another layer of fat to get us through the winter, yes?  See below.

Thursday, Nov. 15 is a very special Audio Wasabi, beginning at 9 PM. We call it Employeeoke. We employees strut our stuff on this night and for just 4 minutes or so each of us gets to be what we've known all along we should have become - famous. Tomatoes, rotten or otherwise, not admitted. Thanks to Brian Chaffee for learning 14 million songs to accommodate the would-be Madonna's and could-have-been Marvin Gaye's.

November 17 & 18

Ale House will be pouring beer and serving food at the Thanksgiving Harvest Festival at Red Apple Farm.

Friday, Nov. 23 begins the Year In Beer Party, a three-day event, Friday through Sunday, culminating in kick-a-keg Sunday. We bring out 19 beers from the year and you get to re-live your favorite moments. Mine is always the summer. Can't get enough.

Saturday, Dec. 8 marks the 32nd anniversary of the death of John Lennon. On this day, each year, we pull out and dust off our Beatles and John Lennon stuff. Brian Chaffee runs the night, puts together his own Beatles band (without the haircuts, but who knows about this year?) and even lets the owner sing a little.

There's more to say, but I think this will hold you.

Wild Game Beer Dinner

Thursday, November 8, 6 PM

5 House Beers, 5 Inspired Courses,

50 Amazing People (You!), $50

Wild Game Course 1 - Oma's Altbier - Lapin au Vin

This French recipe for rabbit is reminiscent of Coq au Vin, a chicken dish with which you may be familiar. Ours is a stew beginning with a sauté of wild boar bacon, seared rabbit leg, carrots, celery, onion, chopped purple majesty potato and

fresh marjoram reduced with German riesling and chicken stock.

Course 2 - Naked Stout - Elk Pot Stickers

Where can you get elk pot stickers?

Elk sausage is mixed with green onion, ginger, carrot, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, soy sauce, sugar, rice vinegar and placed in a won ton wrapper. We sear, then steam and serve them with sweet and spicy chili-ginger-garlic sauce.

Course 3 - Facelift IPA - Roasted Duck with Pomegranate Chili Sauce

Duck is seared with coriander then roasted and served topped with pomegranate chili sauce, pomegranate seeds and garnished with green beans and

caramelized shallots.

INTERMISSION

Course 4 - Face-off Double IPA - Venison Strip Loin with Huckleberry Gastrique

Pan seared venison strip loin is baked and topped with gastrique of wild huckleberries, sugar and aged balsamic vinegar with a bit of duck fat.

Served over seared ramps and baby carrots.

Course 5 - Chocolate Porter - Brownie Pumpkin Pie with Crunchy Pecan Topping

It's all in the name.

Thanksgiving Homebrew Competition

pint The Thanksgiving Homebrew Competition is soon to commence.

You have about two weeks left to brew your best, which with some styles just isn't enough time.  You might just have to go down to your basement open a few oldies, taste a few and dust off the better ones and send them along.

The Gardner Ale House, in conjunction with the Thanksgiving Harvest Festival held at the Red Apple Farm, is sponsoring the 4th Thanksgiving Homebrew Competition. Winners are announced on the second day of the festival, which is Sunday, Nov. 18. Deadline for entries is Wednesday, Nov. 7.  Go here for the rules, style guidelines and the etc. Thanks for your entry. It's only $5!

Ah Ciao!

I hope you enjoyed this brief note!  Until next time...

Thanks for being there. ciao
