Dear AYPO Family,
After three years as Music Director of AYPO, Daniel Spalding has returned to his position as Artistic Director of the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra. We are most grateful for the talent, time, and efforts Maestro Spalding successfully brought to this organization's mission to provide excellent orchestral training for our young musicians.
AYPO artistic and administrative staff members are excited to welcome Christopher Zimmerman as Principal Conductor of the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras ( click here to watch welcome video). We look forward to working with Maestro Zimmerman as we enter our 49th season.
Mr. Zimmerman currently conducts the Fairfax Symphony and the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony. In addition to his positions with professional orchestras, his career has also embraced teaching and working with student orchestras and conductors; in 1993 he joined the conducting faculty at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati where he was Music Director of their concert orchestra, and in 1999 he was appointed as Fuller Professor of Orchestral Studies at the Hartt School as well as Music Director of the Hartt Symphony. A much sought after clinician and pedagogue, Mr. Zimmerman continues to teach at workshops and festivals around the world.
