Comps for Kids program, generously sponsored by Target, with tickets available at the door (no reservations necessary). To enhance the educational experience, the program features Britten's The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, narrated by John R. Adams.
"Imagine! Benjamin Britten included a 270-year-old piece into his Young Person's Guide when he wrote that piece in 1946," comments Adams. "Now the musicians of the American Youth Philharmonic will have those themes in their ears throughout their lifetimes, extending the cultural span of Henry Purcell's work to well over three centuries. I know they'll retain it, because once musicians have thoroughly worked up a sophisticated piece of music, it stays with them throughout their lifetimes. I'm proud to help introduce this music to the youngsters in the audience as well."
AYP will also perform Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nrnburg (Wagner), The Sorcerer's Apprentice (Dukas), and Bolro (Ravel).
"This program is specifically designed for young people who might be attending an orchestra concert for the first time, featuring The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, a brilliant work that presents the entire orchestral palette one section at a time and ending in an incredibly exciting fugue," said Music Director and AYP Conductor Daniel Spalding. "There is no doubt that any connoisseur of classical music is going to enjoy this program! The iconic Sorcerer's Apprentice is a colorful tone poem, Die Meistersinger shows the orchestra in all of its glory, and Bolro features AYP musicians as soloists building to a great finale. We're having a lot of fun preparing for this concert!"
Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors (65+), $10 for college students, free for ages 18 and under, and free for music teachers. Tickets available online or at the door. Bianchi with repertoire by Bellini, Tchaikovsky, Luigini, Rimsky-Korsakov, Hardiman, Berlioz, Debussy, Ravel, and Saint-Sans.
