DID YOU KNOW ? WE ARE ALMOST 16 YEARS OLD.
| On October the 3rd this year the Cork ACS will be 16 years old. Much has happened and God only knows how many mistakes we made. But this I know: We stayed true to our Vet guided non-euthanasia policy and our credo: Their Lives...Our Passion
And just so you know, our Vet Bills for last year (2015) were just short of €30000. (Thirty Thousand Euro).
THAT IS WERE YOUR DONATIONS GO!

WE ARE FIGHTING TO SAVE THEM FROM GOING
BLIND.
Because this can so very easily become that.
Adorable ? Yes! That they are. Mum (feral) and her three babies. We are doing everything we can to keep them that way as BLIND kittens are in essence unrehomable. She is one of the feral Mums we took in and has three lovely kittens born here but they (and we) are struggling with a nasty contagious eye infection. New born kittens are extremely vulnerable to eye infections, usually caused by the Mum carrying a virus which, while washing her kittens, is transferred to them. Unless immediate action is taken, these kittens will go blind. NO IF'S OR BUTT'S. Had Anne, our sanctuary owner, not taken the highly pregnant Mum here, they would have been long dead by now.
Why are the eyes so vulnerable? The eye is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, warm, moist and the liquid surrounding the eye provides all the food these bacteria and viruses need. The puss generated by the infection glues the eyes shut and the eye can be destroyed, if untreated, in a matter of days. Treatment usually consists of washing out the eye(s) with sterile saline solution and applying medication several times a day, in our case we are using Fusithalmic Acid. If that does not work an other option is to have a vet prepare a special serum, made from the mothers blood, and apply that to the effected eye morning and evening, while during the day continuing with the other treatment. We had to go that route as initially the kittens were not responding to the normal treatment. But... we are delighted to report that it looks like they are now turning the corner and we will be able to save their eyes (and their lives !) Special thanks to Anne, Caroline, Alison, Nicole and Siobhan for their unrelenting efforts with these little souls. |
CHARITY SHOP VOLUNTEER NEEDED FOR SATURDAYS.
As many of you might know, we have a small charity shop in Cork City,. It is located in the Greenwood Estate, (Togher), next to Griffin Pianos. We urgently need a reliable volunteer for Saturdays. The income from this small shop is vital for the survival of the Cork ACS. While retail experience would be nice, it isn't mandatory as full training will be given. Interested ? Drop a quick line to info@animalcaresociety.ie and we can tell you more. Oops, almost forgot, please bring unwanted Clothes, Bric A Brac, DVD's etc.. for the shop to resell, in that way YOU can help save more lives ! (No electrical items please as our insurance does not allow us to resell them). Thank you. Back to top |
OUR VERY SPECIAL APPEAL.
WE NEED YOU ! PLEASE RUN/WALK FOR ACS IN THE EVENING ECHO MINI MARATHON.

ARE YOU IN THERE ? HELPING TO SAVE MORE LIVES?
Folks, we desperately need to raise more funds if we are to survive. Our vets bills and food costs are massive and without extra money coming in the ACS will not survive and we will face closure before the year is out.
PLEASE sponsor us by participating in the ladies MinI-Marathon. Two easy steps to do so:
1) Register with the mini marathon organisers by clicking here.
2) Set-up your own sponsor page on Idonate by clicking here. Or if you want to use a hardcopy sponsorship card instead, email us and we will mail you one. Some of our supporters, photo taken at a previous mini marathon.
We wish to remember our employee, supporter and close friend, Anne Fitzgerald, who walked the mini mar. while pushing a buggy with her orphan kittens. Anne's drive, kindness and compassion to all living creatures was virtually unmatched. Anne is shown as the second lady on the r/h side. Anne was tragically taken away from us at a young age, but her memory lives on forever. Rest in Peace Anne safe in the knowledge that your treasured ACS organisation continued your work.

WE SO VERY MUCH NEED OUR VERY OWN HOMES.
|
|
PLEASE? WE NEED HOMES
Kittens, yes yes yes, too many to list. The older ones around 12 weeks of age are neutered and of course wormed and flea treated as well as fully vaccinated. The younger ones are still babies and vary from 1 week to 9 weeks. Why not come and visit us ?

MEET OUR MILLIE
Isn't she lovely? Abandoned and taken in by the ACS, Millie needs a home so badly. She is an affectionate middle aged cat, who loves nothing better than to sit on your lap and have a warm place in the sun. The love she will give you will warm your heart. Of course she is neutered and vaccinated.
|
|
Will you adopt me?
Here is Dellie. Her Mum went into hospital and will never return home. Her story was in great detail and put on our Facebook page. She is middle aged, very loving but will have to be an indoor cat, preferably without any other animals as she was an only child for 11 years and has never met other animals. Once she knows you, she will love you to bits.
