SHE GRACED OUR LIVES FOR ALMOST 21 YEARS!
Phtomof our Phoebe with bandana
This was our most treasured eldest sanctuary resident. Phoebe, an abandoned unwanted collie. Due to the exceptional care given to her, she lived to the age of almost 21 years.
She is remembered in these words:
"She had all the virtues of a human but none of the vices."
R.I.P. Phoebe we miss you so very much.

NAIL YOUR COLOURS TO THE MAST.
Are you game ?   No...no we mean this in the nicest possible way. 'ere goes. In September the Cork Evening Echo mini marathon is running.   We need YOU to help raise desperately needed funds. Why not set up your own fundraising page on  Idonate.ie?  (or for a hardcopy sponsorcard, just email us). No need to run, you can walk it too. And as a BIG Thank You for doing this... you get to wear (and keep)  our now (in)famous T Shirt.
But... PLEASE don't show this to your boyfriend !!!!!!!!

A POINT TO CONSIDER?

Picture of Albert
On October the 3rd the Cork ACS will be 16 years old.
Much has happened and God only knows how many mistakes we made.
But this I know:
We stayed true to our Vet guided non-euthanasia policy and our credo: Their Lives...Our Passion

Stray Dog pic, considerations
We didn't think it could be possible, but being busy does not remotely begin to describe how we feel.  You would expect that after almost 16 unbroken years of animal rescue and welfare work, we, and the many other rescues, operating throughout the country, would see a let-up in the calls for help.
Sadly, that is not the case, call after call, email after email from people needing help. Dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, wildlife, the requests for help keep coming in.
Our animal sanctuary is now truly bursting at the seams and we are so full that we haven't  a millimetre of free space. A while ago, it got so bad that we had a dog in one bathroom and 2 kittens in the other one.
With over 140 animals to care for our workload is huge and bear in mind, it's a 7 day week, 365 day a year effort.

remote control trap
YES, we're in overdrive. Anne, our sanctuary owner,
has spend weeks trying to get a particularly difficult
situation under control. These poor cats were in an awful state. Razor thin, crawling with fleas and many were pregnant ! Working very late at night she managed to get 30 cats done! Several females were too far gone for spaying and they were moved to the sanctuary to have their babies in safety and comfort. Thank you Anne, words of praise are inadequate for the work and huge effort you put in. (The photo shows our humane blue-tooth  remote controlled trap, baited with with sardines in tomato sauce).
Folks, please remember, the ACS is paying for all this.  Adding in the worming, flea treatment and several tests, the bill for this is over 2000 Euro. The "owner" will not contribute one single cent, but that did not stop our Anne from undertaking this life saving project, instead of walking away and letting the cats/ kittens continue to suffer and die.
Please help the ACS by donating to us. Ever so many thanks.

CHARITY SHOP VOLUNTEER NEEDED FOR SATURDAYS.

ACS charity shop front
As many of you might know, we have a small charity shop in Cork City,. It is located in the Greenwood Estate, (Togher), next to Griffin Pianos. We urgently need a reliable volunteer for Saturdays. The income from this small shop is vital for the survival of the Cork ACS. While retail experience would be nice, it isn't mandatory as full training will be given. Interested ? Drop a quick line to info@animalcaresociety.ie and we can tell you more.
Oops, almost forgot, please bring unwanted Clothes, Bric-Brac, DVD's etc.. for the shop to resell, in that way YOU can help save more lives ! (No electrical items please as our insurance does not allow us to resell them). Thank you.

HELP STOP THE SUFFERING.

animal politics
THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE SUFFERING.
YES, it can be done but it requires YOU
to make your voice heard. We must get the current animal welfare legislation (2014 Animal Welfare Act) changed to make spaying/neutering for companion animals  MANDATORY.  Please email the Minister of Agriculture, Food & the Marine at:  minister@agriculture.gov.ie
Even better, an old fashioned letter can work wonders: Here is the address:
Minister of Agriculture, Food & the Marine
Agriculture House
Kildare Street
Dublin 2

PLEASE ADOPT, DON'T BUY !
For every puppy or dog bought from a breeder, it is very likely that one in a pound will die. Pounds are overflowing and remember, the 1986 Control of Dogs Act allows any pound to kill of any dog after the mandatory 5 day waiting period has passed. NOTE: Voluntary surrendered dogs can be killed immediately, the 1986 Act makes no provision for them.

Jedward image
By adopting from a rescue centre or a pound you
can help to reduce or even put a  stop to the countless animals killed every year.  PLEASE help save a life, they did not ask to be dumped or abandoned. Remember, only an animal will give you unconditional love. Rich or poor, young or old, driving a BMW or a Trabant, none of it matters to them.
With thanks to Jedward, setting a shining example.

OUR VERY SPECIAL APPEAL.

Handsome? YES SIR. That's what I am. My name?, you guessed it. Flynn the handsome one, as the girls call me. I'm only 1 year old, neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, flea treated, wormed, a full NCT as you humans call it. Loving, full of beans. Playing? Yes Sir, I invented it. I LOVE other dogs and get on with cats too, but to tell you the truth, I am a wee bit afraid of 'em, they have some real bullies 'ere at the sanctuary and I've been told off by 'em. You wanna know more.??.. ask Caroline Faherty, by God, what a woman ! She NEVER gave up and it took her weeks to catch me 'cause I was so very very scared and kept running. But all that is now water under the bridge. Heh... why not come and visit me ? But.. be warned... Like Mohammed Ali said: I am the greatest !! YES SIR!
It goes without saying, I love people too, once I get to know them. While I have a great life at the ACS sanctuary, I'd love a family of my own to look after, protect and be with. Could that be YOU ?

Flynn lying down
Cork Animal Care Society's Flynn, the Handsome One !
As Muhammed Ali would have said: I'm the Greatest!
WE SO VERY MUCH NEED OUR VERY OWN HOMES.
Image of kitten a few hours old
PLEASE?  WE NEED HOMES

Kittens, yes yes yes, too many to list. The older ones around 12 weeks of age are neutered and of course wormed and flea treated as well as fully vaccinated.
The younger ones are still babies and vary from 1 week to 9 weeks. Why not come and visit us ?
Our Millie fully healed
MEET OUR MILLIE

Isn't she lovely? Abandoned and taken in by the ACS, Millie needs a home so badly. She is an affectionate middle aged cat, who loves nothing better than to sit on your lap and have a warm place in the sun. The love she will give you will warm your heart.  Of course she is neutered and vaccinated.

Will you adopt me?

Here is Dellie. Her Mum went into hospital and will never return home. Her story was in great detail and put on our Facebook page. She is middle aged, very loving but will have to be an indoor cat, preferably without any other animals as she  was an only child for 11  years and  has never met other animals. Once she knows you, she will love you to bits.

THANK YOU for your support and help to the many abandoned, neglected and homeless animals we try to deal with. Please REMEMBER: IT IS US HUMANS who have failed them. None of them wanted to be abandoned or neglected. TOGETHER we can make this world a better place for them and for us.

Oh...and just so you know... every cent which comes in, or goes out of this charity is VERIFIED by two (2) independent chartered accountants. Brian Foley, our treasurer is one and Cuddy, O'Leary and Foley of Little Island, Cork are our final auditors that  re-verify Brians work. When you donate to us, YOUR MONEY GOES TO THE CAUSE AND NOWHERE ELSE! The Cork ACS has NEVER applied for an audit exemption and NEVER will.

If you wish to support us via a donation, please do so by clicking here. THANK YOU.
