Ice Gardens: The Poetics of Nature
Mary Kocol
Mary Kocol, Garden Roses, 2008.
Gardens and flowers have long been a source of artistic inspiration for artist Mary Kocol. For her most recent series, Ice Gardens: The Poetics of Nature, Kocol both engages with the tradition of still life and reinvents it. Freezing blooms in ice and photographing them in dynamic ways, Kocol creates vibrant images that delight the eyes, inspire the soul, and remind us of the evanescent of spring.

Ernesto Bazan and his students in the mountains of Peru.
Have nothing to do this summer? Now you do! Internationally acclaimed photographer Ernesto Bazan will lead this special two-day workshop on building and editing a cohesive body of work. Every serious photographer must have a defined, well-produced body of work in order to be considered for publication or exhibition. Bazan will look at each student's best images and any projects in-process, and he will show examples of successful and unsuccessful editing while discussing how to distill each photographer's vision in to the strongest way possible. The emphasis will be on developing your body of work - a portfolio of images that defines you as a photographer.
