STATE OF THE MISSION
In beginning a New Year, we often think of resolutions for self-improvement or goals we'd like to realize. The DWTX World Missions Department decided, instead, to do a review of major accomplishments that can be attributed to the faithful people of our diocese -- those who have gone, who have given, who have prayed. Take time to look over the broad scope of ministry that has blessed so many in so many ways and places throughout the years.

WE ARE GOERS: Terry and Brien Koehler (Christ Church, San Antonio)
Fr. Brien and Terry Koehler: Go-ers to Honduras since 1997. To answer the question, "Why do we do mission work in Honduras?," I'd have to answer, "Because we have no choice!" When God calls you to mission, it becomes so much a part of your heart's desire that to do anything less than GO would leave a hole in your heart. We travel to the Copn area twice a year where we have developed strong relationships and truly care about the well-being of the people God has put in our paths. We hope to make our Honduran friends' lives better in three ways - spiritually, physically and mentally.

WE ARE GIVERS: Caroline and Curt Mowen (St. Luke's, San Antonio)
We believe that missionaries can be the real presence of God's Grace and Love. We give to enable the gifts that others have to be shared through mission.

I AM A PRAY-ER: Libby Templeton (St. Francis, Canyon Lake)
Several years ago I began feeling called to mission work but wasn't really certain how. I started attending varying meetings with the intent of soaking up as much learning as possible. During one of these meetings, a planning meeting for the Honduras Manos de Dios mission, I sat, present, watching, listening, and noticed not only the excitement in the planning process, but also the uncertainty, the sadness for those that wouldn't be able to go, concern for health of those going, and so on. It was then that I felt a very strong nudge to pray... not just to say a quick prayer each day while they were gone but to have an intentional prayer plan, to be involved with the teams as they prepare to go, to engage others in the praying, and to ensure that those staying at home could be kept in the loop as well. I started with our parish and the trips that members there focus on and then it moved into the diocesan level. It's a blessing for me to be able to offer my time to this effort. Go-ers, Giv-ers, Pray-ers are all integral parts of mission work.

DID YOU KNOW...
There are THREE components to world mission:
GOING, GIVING, PRAYING.
You know about GOING AND GIVING, but did you know that Virtual Mission is a group of PRAY-ERS who participate in team trips by attending team meetings, reading the team devotional books, staying connected with the team as they go, and PRAYING daily for the team? If you'd like to be part of Virtual Mission, contact Libby Templeton for more information ( [email protected]).
