August 9, 2016
We're getting ready to announce our plans for fall, including our Humanist Haven speaker lineup. We can't wait to tell you all about the amazing speakers and topics we've got planned. But before we do, we hope you'll join us this Sunday, August 14 at 1 PM at The Grove for our final Humanist Haven of the summer, featuring a talk by Secular Meditation author Rick Heller.

Read on for more information about his talk. We hope to see those of you who are in town there, and we look forward to welcoming the rest of you back very soon!

Best,
Chris Stedman, Executive Director
Humanist Haven: Secular Meditation
Humanist Haven welcomes Rick Heller on 8/14.

In his Humanist Haven talk, Rick Heller will discuss the history of meditation as a secular practice over the last forty years. He will also lead attendees in a loving-kindness meditation, which has been shown to elevate mood and even, in a study done at Yale, to reduce bias against stigmatized groups. Click here to RSVP on Facebook and click here to RSVP on Meetup.

Humanist Haven is YHC's community gathering where people from all across Yale and New Haven come together to ask big questions, explore what gives our lives meaning and purpose, and act to make the world a better place. Over the summer, Humanist Haven meets on the second Sunday of each month. Join us at The Grove -- 760 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT -- on the second Sunday of August (8/14) at 1 PM for Humanist Haven with Rick Heller.

Rick Heller is the author of Secular Meditation: 32 Practices for Cultivating Inner Peace, Compassion, and Joy - A Guide from the Humanist Community at Harvard. Rick has led meditations at the Humanist Community at Harvard since 2009. As a freelance journalist, Rick has reported for the Lowell Sun and been published in Tikkun, Free Inquiry, and The Humanist magazines.
