Lighthouse

YHC has commissioned Edwin "Ted" Salmon to create this symbol of the human spirit in community. This original, interactive sculpture will enhance the luster of the Green, create a focal point for congregation and connection, and express our commitment to the well-being of the people who inhabit our city, nation and world. Its annual presence will serve as an inclusive, welcoming reminder that when humans of all beliefs and backgrounds come together we can create beauty, light, and warmth during even the coldest and darkest time of the year.

Salmon's concept of an obelisk -- reminiscent of a lighthouse and adorned with silhouette images representing various facets of community -- will stand 15 feet high and be visible from all sides of the Green. As individuals gather near, the light will change and grow warmer. Once enough people surround the sculpture the light will begin to pulse like a heartbeat, representing our shared humanity.

It only happens with community support!

We've just launched an IndieGOGO campaign that will run from April 2 to May 11 to raise the funds to pay for this ambitious work of art and time capsule. Your financial help -- anything you can contribute -- is crucial. Without support from people all across the community and beyond, this project won't happen. Please help us bring light to the New Haven Green for years to come!

Various levels of contributions will include rewards such as pins, unveiling celebration Gala tickets, sculpture replicas, and more. And don't forget the time capsule! Your thoughts could be housed in the sculpture and shared with the Greater New Haven community in the year 2138 to celebrate its 500th anniversary.
