Message from the Chairman
Andrew Seamans, AIA of D5 Architecture
Spring 2014 is here again in Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City Foundation for Architecture has just finished two exciting yearly events, but there is still chance for you to experience another one of the Foundations amazing event.
The spring is home to Architecture Week, and it is typically the second week in April every year. The week consists of many events that celebrate architecture including tours, presentations, and awards. The OKC Foundation for Architecture is proud to assist the American Institute of Architects Central Oklahoma Chapter for Architecture Week. The Foundation has two of the many events.
KiDesign and the Photography Competition are the two events. They are two great events that embrace the importance of design in our world. They have been growing ever more successful year after year.
During KiDesign, architects and engineers provide a half day lesson plans for children. The classes are broken up by age range, and let students see the importance of design in our environment. Perhaps a handful of these students will look back and choose their profession by these experiences the Foundation has provided.
The Photography Competition was also a success this year. The competition is broken up into the following categories: students, profession photographers, and architects/intern architects. Thanks to all that entered and thanks to all that came to see the photos on display.
There is still one event, The 2014 Poker Run, that is happening on May 17th and it will be an excellent opportunity to experience architecture in the state via a Poker Run. You don't have to know a thing about poker to participate. We are traveling to five great locations to see and experience some great designs. We will be starting at the Hopewell Baptist Church at 9:00 am, and the tour continues to the Chisholm Trail Museum, The Carnegie Library of El Reno, The Myriad Gardens and our final stop is at TAP Architecture for food and prizes.
We look forward to seeing you at the Poker Run to help support The OKC Foundation for Architecture.
Sincerely,
Andrew Seamans, AIA
