As we approach the holiday season, I would like thank the Village staff and trustees for their contributions to making Wind Point a great place to live and to wish you and your loved ones all the best for the holidays and the new year ahead.
I'm looking forward to your feedback now that the Village has added Facebook and Twitter to its modes of communication.
And be careful of the cold and the wintry roads.
~President Pete Christensen

| Moments in Wind Point History... |
It was 60 years ago - December 1953 - when a public gathering was held at Wind Point School to discuss a plan for incorporating the Wind Point and Kramer Addition areas of the Town of Caledonia as the new Village of Wind Point. A plan was presented by resident Richard Harvey that included initial expenses of $26,560 for a fire truck, office equipment and incorporation fees. An informal vote was taken that resulted in 55 for and 2 against pursuing incorporation.

Is your mailbox ready for snow?
Residents are reminded that mailboxes damaged by snow pushed by the plows are the responsibility of the homeowner to repair. Make sure your mailbox is winter-ready by ensuring it is straight, sturdy and stable, and that it meets US Postal Service requirements: 41 to 45 inches off the ground, 6 to 8 inches back from the curb or edge of the pavement, buried 24 inches in the ground, and able to safely break away if struck by a vehicle. Some other reminders for the Winter Season... Please do not push or plow snow onto public roadways or right-of-ways. This can make it more hazardous for vehicle traffic and more difficult for public works staff to clear snow effectively. Also, be sure to dig out fire hydrants so they are accessible during emergencies and keep any storm drains on your property clear of debris to avoid pooling water during snow thaws. |

With the 2014 budget set, Village staff is working with the County to have tax bills prepared and mailed out by mid-December. This is the time of year property owners might wonder, "Where do my property tax dollars go, exactly?"
Although the Village of Wind Point collects tax payments, 76 cents of each $1 collected goes toward other taxing jurisdictions, including the school district, County, technical college and State. Twenty-four cents of every dollar goes toward local government services, like police, fire, garbage collection and street maintenance.
Wind Point continues to operate with the second-lowest tax rate in the County among incorporated municipalities.
~Michael Hawes, Administrator
