When the new Voxman Music Building opens downtown in Fall 2016, it will be both the culmination of a project eight years in the making and the beginning of a new chapter in the rich arts and cultural history of The University of Iowa. For students, faculty, and Iowa City community members alike, the new building brings the School of Music to center stage.


Tale of a 10-Year Journey
In 2006, 15 faculty members participated in the second Center for Teaching Faculty Institute, which focused on the theory and practice of community-based service-learning. During first-day introductions, Craig Just-now an Assistant Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering-described his goal to create an international service-learning course in partnership with a Rotary International chapter in Xicotepec de Juárez, Puebla, Mexico. After hearing his vision, fellow Institute participant Hazel Seaba, Associate Dean and Clinical Professor of Pharmacy, turned to Just and said, "Me too!"


TILE: Beyond the Lecture
The University of Iowa TILE (Transform, Interact, Learn, Engage) Program is a nationally-recognized initiative to increase student retention, enrollment, and overall academic success by transforming courses and making the most effective use of learning spaces.
TILE has always offered both pedagogical support and tech training. Instructors are not only taught how to use the technology but also are provided course redesign strategies that can help them take full advantage of the active-learning classroom design...
