History of our Members:

JW Floor Covering is one of the largest floor covering companies in San Diego county.  Owner John Wallace began his floor covering career installing carpet for Raffee's Interiors, which focused primarily on single home residential sales. Eventually as the builder sales business grew, the residential side was sold and Alan Raffee started Design for Living, which focused on Builder sales(new construction track work). John found he could earn a good living by committing long hours with an eye for detail to install hundreds of yards daily.  As each day passed, he realized that in order to continue to improve his progress, he had to duplicate himself and become a contractor.

In 1981, John officially started JW Floor Covering working out of the back of his truck. His focus was primarily commercial installations but he quickly realized in order to avoid losing installers in slower times, he would need to also have a residential capability with a more controlled job schedule. In 1983 JW Floor Covering landed the May Company Account (one of the largest floor covering residential retailers at that time). By this time, JW Floor Covering had grown to ten installers, and was beginning to make a great name for itself. Through quality work and service, JW Floor Covering continued to grow and added The Broadway and J C Penny's to its customer list as well as several new commercial accounts. Growing pains were all part of the process, and over the next 6 years JW FC moved 4 times, starting from 1,200 square foot warehouse and ending up in 16,000 sq ft in 1989 in Miramar.

This facility enabled JW FC to expand into selling flooring and together with John's wife Margot, and her good friend Paula Haberkern they started ReSource Floors, Inc in 1989. Over the past 25 years ReSource Floors, inc. has grown to be a thriving commercial flooring competitor in San Diego County.   As both companies continued to grow John purchased a lot in Miramar, and developed a building to house both entities.   Now with additional new space, John was able to start JW Cleaning and Restoration and provide the complete gambit of flooring services.

Throughout his career, John's legacy has shown that his success has always run parallel with his conviction to make the customers positive experience his companies utmost priority.  John says; "Creating a culture of "serving others" not only improves the customer experience, it improves your business environment, your corporate culture and ultimately your bottom line".  It's a win, win, win!

Today, JW Floor Covering is the largest full service flooring company in the State of California, with nearly 450 associates.  The corporate headquarters in San Diego expands over 34,000sf of mixed use space. Additional locations include Temecula, Elk Grove, Orange County, Los Angeles, Hayward, Santa Rosa, San Jose, Cartersville, and Las Vegas Nevada.

John is very proud of the 30+ coworkers who have been with the JW Floor Covering family of companies for over 10 years, and 9 coworkers have been with the company for more than 20 years.

John has had many highlights throughout his career.  One of his favorites was his involvement with the BIA 4 hour house competition in early 1980.  His team along with 700 other local construction workers shattered the world record held by Florida and built a house from concrete pour to finish landscape in 2 hours and 52 minutes!

John assisted with the SDFCA Floor Excellence Flooring program for 10 years and has a long history of industry support on the boards of FCICA, SDCFCA AND FUSE.

John attributes his longevity and success in business to the grace and goodness of God.

In gratitude he started the 501-C3 Foundation, "Outreach Impacting Lives" in 2008.

Outreach is a foundation that gives back to our community through backpack programs for: the homeless, the military, and children and families in need.  Outreach also provides flooring and installation for many worthy local causes as well as providing meals to young military families at Thanksgiving and Easter.

Outreach also provides the JW family of co-workers wonderful opportunities to serve as well.

John has the future in mind as he continues to grow and develop his companies in an ever changing flooring environment.  He is committed to preserve their integrity, service, commitment to the customer, and values his hardworking dedicated employees.
