Greetings from Maupin Travel:
Travel has certainly been a big part of the news scene this month as lower oil prices, the Ebola crisis and airline Q3 reporting all took center stage. The travel industry is undergoing a resurgence and airlines are starting to expand their service routes and add additional equipment albeit more cautiously this time around. Hotels are enjoying one of their most robust periods in over 20 years.
And while more organizations are recognizing the benefit of establishing a managed approach to their travel, many continue to spend too much time, money and resources by taking a do-it-yourself approach. As one of the region's largest travel management companies, we have the technology and expertise to help you establish the right travel program for your company's travel needs.
If you are not currently one of our partners, we would welcome the opportunity to offer you insight into your existing program and devise a travel solution for your unique needs.
Best regards,

Delta Revives Bare-Bones Fares to Battle Cheap Rivals
Bloomberg News By Michael Sasso and Mary Schlangenstein Oct 16, 2014
For travelers who just want an airline seat and not much else, Delta Air Lines Inc. is bringing back a "Basic Economy" fare with even fewer frills than a standard coach seat.
After a hiatus of several months, Delta is resurrecting its lowest economy class ticket as it seeks to keep bargain carrier Spirit Airlines Inc. from luring away leisure travelers. The bare-bones "e-class" ticket will not allow passengers to get seat upgrades or make same-day flight changes and they will board last. Continue
US Airlines Raise Base Fares on Domestic Flights
ABC NEWS David Koenig Oct 20, 2014
JetBlue Airways raised fares by $4 per round trip on a small number of routes Thursday, and Delta Air Lines picked up and greatly expanded the breadth of the increase, according to FareCompare.com CEO Rick Seaney and J.P. Morgan analyst Jamie Baker.
The hike got an important boost when Southwest matched it a day later. Other airlines often drop price hikes if they are resisted by Southwest, which carries the most domestic passengers. Continue
Delta: 2015 Capacity Growth Will Be Modest, Controlled
Business Travel News Michael B. Baker Oct 17, 2014
Delta Air Lines plans "disciplined" systemwide capacity growth of 2 percent next year, according to the carrier, which also reported an adjusted net income of $1 billion for the third quarter.
CEO Richard Anderson, speaking Thursday on a conference call with investors and media, said the 2 percent growth rate is Delta's target as it finalizes capacity plans for 2015. He noted that "excess capacity growth" on transatlantic routes this summer has put pressure on the industry. Continue

New York Times Oct 20, 2014
AMONG the things that would come in handy for business travelers concerned about the possible effects of Ebola on international travel is a map of the world.
On that map, the Ebola outbreak can be marked at crisis levels in a handful of West African countries, with a few confirmed cases elsewhere, including three in the United States. Continue
Amadeus to launch merchandising system, plugging into existing hosting technology and NDC
TNooz Oct 14, 2014
Amadeus is to make its biggest push yet into the world of airline merchandising, as part of a vision to unlock what it claims is at least $130 billion in revenues for carriers.
The company says tapping into that multi-billion dollar bounty by 2020, according to estimates from its own research and data from IATA and the Frost & Sullivan consultancy, will be possible through a combination of a new Global Merchandising System and overhauling its existing retailing and distribution technology. Is it time for minimum airline seat standards?
USA Today Christopher Elliott Oct 6, 2014
It's not your imagination. Airline seats are shrinking. A wave of air-rage incidents has exposed the problem like a threadbare economy class seat on an aging puddle jumper. A Delta Air Lines flight from New York to Palm Beach, Fla., recently made an unscheduled landing in Jacksonville after two passengers scuffled over a reclining seat. It followed two similar altercations a few days earlier, both of which also involved seat-related altercations. Continue
