BostonStrong
Please scroll to the bottom of this email to find places where you can donate to the recovery of Boston. I'm highlighting two that you may or may not know: United We Stride, you can buy t-shirts, hoodies, and more, and all proceeds plus $1 go to the recovery of the amputees. JetBlue, who graciously discounted the fares and then created a way to donate to OneFund and still earn miles. I've included links to both. |

America's Freedoms Are Our Vulnerabilities
There is no doubt that the terrorism of the Boston Marathon 2013 was heart-stopping, heart-rending, and a cruel reminder that America's freedoms are also our vulnerabilities.
It's also a bit ironic that, because of a family emergency, both of my daughters had flown down to our house and were with us when the bombs went off. Why is this important enough for me to mention here? Because if my older daughter hadn't come down to help, she would have been exactly at the finish line where the bomb went off. Coincidence?

CDC: Over 30% of Americans are diagnosed with high blood pressure.
As noted in so many opportunities, HTN is the real epidemic in heart disease, diabetes, and more. Worse: less than 60% of those diagnosed are controlled, despite the extremely low cost of treatment (most Rx for HTN is generic).

Declining Health Care Costs?
On Jan 7 2013, Sarah Kliff, of the Washington Post (hereinafter WAPO), published a blogpost on the expanding health care costs in America. Now, her new post highlights what appears to be some good news: the spending on health care appears to be slowing by 1% per year, and, if so, could reduce our total HC spend from $3T to $1T in the next 10 years.

I audaciously tweeted to them on 4.22 (I imagine many others did, too, but I made a jpg and put it on my blog post) and told them Boston was gonna need some economic support and we needed some serious discounts. On 4.23 I received an email with serious discounts.
Help those most affected by the Boston tragedy through The One Fund Boston, and JetBlue will match up to $100K. http://www.jetbluegives.org
