Keeping in Touch
In the past 7 weeks, I've traveled to Africa to find a new energy. Being on safari, visiting the Cape of Good Hope, and, as you may imagine, so many other adventures, was an incredible journey that I shared with my husband, no fabulous stilettos involved. I identified new social structures that meet immediate needs in communities (both on safari and in man-made communities), and I had the joy of speaking with people around the world about their interests (conservation, global warming, good wine). I also answered some questions about the healthcare impasse that seems to be on everyone's mind, and I heard first-hand how other people fare in their different cultures and health systems. Since I've returned I've sorted through over 1500 pictures and organized a bit, but there's still much more to do!
Last week I provided a Legislative Brief on Capitol Hill! I was asked to present, along with another colleague, to the legislative aides to the Fiscal Cliff committee. The subject was value-based insurance design and the opportunities for success in Medicare. (No stilettos here, either, by the way). I can report that there were great questions, special moments of education in the business success and challenges of deploying value-based models, and there has been some wonderful follow-up.
Last week I also "went public" on the hunt for true game-changing technology. I've had several very deep conversations with companies over the past 6 weeks, but last week I finally put pen to paper o begin drawing the kinds of solutions that matter to me, the kind that foster engagement on the people-side, but that also speed access to affordable quality of care. Then, I began speed-dialing some of the companies that are poised to optimize the outcomes. What is amazing is that my vision is resonating with new technology, and a big thanks to all of you who are referring me to companies that you've found.
This is not an email to the directors of the Center, though I wish them well. Most of you have been part of one or another online discussion that I've created at many times over the last 10-12 years. Like you, many data points come across my desk every day. My efforts in small subgroups of discussion allowed us to have those conversations privately for whomever chose to participate.
I've also learned that many of you relied on my "briefs" to send you emerging data, place the data in context of what we hoped to achieve in the market, and also call-out some potential missteps that could happen. As one person said to me,
"Cyndy, we need to hear from you."
So, consider this my mid-December update, folks. I've got the beginnings of a social blog created at CyndyNayer.com Right now, it has some earlier publications that I've promoted, plus a couple of new and noteworthy items, such as the recently-released health care parity pamphlet from the Partnership for Workplace Mental Health. I will be uploading my talk for the Hill folks, some new ideas, and more in the coming weeks. Additionally, I've created a group on LinkedIn called Health Is The Goal, so some long-time and some very new friends can engage in multiple dialogues.
Yes, I've left the Center, but I'm very active, very much on-cue for organizing the steps to success in health reform, health engagement and health outcomes. Thank you to all of you in this first group of close colleagues who have been so stellar in keeping in touch and pushing our ideas forward. I do hope I'll hear personally and organizationally from you. For now, it's back to wrapping presents, adding more info to the business plan, and convening discussions in some of the most unlikely places!
I'll invite you every chance I get. Till then, you can reach me at cyndyn@me.com, working hard, like you, to make a dent in the universe.
To your health!
