This is the third year in a row that Garden Design School graduates have participated in and won awards at the Boston Show. This year the show featured 30 garden display entries from throughout New England.
Thomas and Christine collaborated to produce their winning entry, titled "A Welcoming Urban Oasis". Their garden illustrated how a small plot in a dense urban setting can be transformed into a lush green, wooded sanctuary. It featured a sunken circular porcelain tiled patio, weathered steel retaining walls and a built-in rainwater recovery system to provide irrigation. While incorporating sustainable materials and ideas in their garden wherever possible, Thomas and Christine demonstrated that "green" practices and good design can go hand-in-hand.
A team of eight volunteers spent two and a half days installing the exhibit. Their efforts paid off for Thomas and Christine in the form of four awards:
New England Chapter (APLDne) Association of Professional Landscape Designers Award
Awarded for the "Most beautiful home landscape designed with clarity and spatial awareness, attention to scale, unified and harmonious use of regional hardscape and plant materials with good transition between elements, low maintenance, and environmentally responsible".
The Landscape Design Council of the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Inc. Award II
