Dynon Header 01
Welcome to a New Airshow Season
We were kept busy at the Sebring Sport Aviation Expo this year, both in our booth and talking to the many LSA manufacturers exhibiting their planes. Most people we talked to were positive about 2013, although it seems that financing is still tight for aircraft buyers which contributed to slower LSA sales in 2012. Let's hope aircraft sales follow the upward housing market trends into 2013. And experimental aircraft completions appear strong - keep building!

Dynon has many new products planned for this year, starting with SkyView software release 5.1, more training classes, and much more to be announced.

Keep Flying,

SkyView Version 5.1 - User Data Logging

With the release of firmware version 5.1, SkyView will have the ability to record and store flight and engine data for later retrieval and analysis. We are excited about this often requested feature, which will be especially useful to builders during the test phases of a newly built aircraft. The FAA and EAA have both recommended data logging during flight tests of EAB aircraft to document the aircraft performance and operating envelope, which can help improve the accuracy and completeness of aircraft flight manuals.

In SkyView there are actually two data logs which are stored:

The first - the User Data Log - records the entire state of the SkyView system, over 100 items, and includes all ADAHRS (flight instrument) data, engine parameters, GPS data, autopilot status, transponder status, time, and more. SkyView can record from two to 150 hours of flight time, depending on the recording frequency selected with choices between 0.1 Hz and 16Hz. The User Data Log records at the selected rate whenever the SkyView system is powered on, and exports to a USB memory stick as a standard CSV file. The log file can then be viewed in spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel, and is fully self-documenting via a descriptive header row at the top of the log.

The second log is a Recent Flight Log of the last 15 minutes of in-flight data, and is always recorded at 16Hz.

Version 5.1 is available on the SkyView  Downloads page of our website.

New - D10/D100 to SkyView Conversion Guide

New for 2013 is our release of a conversion guide for upgrading to SkyView from our earlier systems, addressing specific issues facing customers with our older systems. As the feature list for SkyView grows longer, and especially now with the ADS-B In and Out capabilities, many customers are updating and upgrading their panels. This guide is applicable for converting to SkyView from the FlightDEK-D180, EFIS-D6, EFIS-D10A, EFIS-D60, EFIS-D100, EMS-D10, and EMS-D120.

The guide is now available  on our website on the  Product Documentation page. We will not be printing any hard copies and it is a supplement to the SkyView System Installation Guide.

New - Dynon Manuals in Italian

NorthAir Aviation, one of our dealers in Italy, has recently completed Italian language translations of the Pilot User Guides for the SkyView system and our D10/D100 series instruments.  Italian language Pilot User Guides will be provided by NorthAir Aviation for free to customers who purchase their Dynon Avionics equipment through NorthAir. Others wishing to obtain Italian language manuals may contact NorthAir Aviation directly to inquire about price and availability of those manuals.

New Inside Sales Specialist - Adam Schultz

We're happy to welcome a new face to our Dynon Marketing Team! Adam Schultz is our new Inside Sales Specialist while Natalie Sipes moves over to focus on other marketing projects (like the Newsletter!) If you call in for an order, you will surely notice his friendly and eager attitude.

SkyView Hands-On Training - More Classes and Locations!

We at Dynon recognize that transition training is important before piloting a new airplane, or airplane type. Whether in the clouds or in clear skies, flying a new plane is not the right time to be learning how to operate aircraft avionics. Our SkyView training classes are an ongoing series of hands-on three-hour courses, instructed by Kirk Kleinholz, CFII and Sales Manager for Dynon Avionics.  Participants sit in front of live SkyView equipment and learn in-depth how to operate SkyView.  For more information about classes see the Transition Training page on our website.

Factory Transition Training Classes

The next classes are being held at our factory near Seattle, Washington.  The classes are free, but please do sign up so we know you are coming. If you are from out of town and want to make a weekend of it, nearby are some incredible aviation sites. The Seattle Museum of Flight, Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection (perfectly restored, flight worthy WWII aircraft), and the Boeing Factory Tour (747s, 777s, and 787s) are must sees.

If you are interested in seeing Seattle while you are here check out these aviation attractions:
