My life in real estate: FSBO - Part 2

December, 2009

OK, so my attempt to buy a "FSBO property" was a costly and painful experience. How about selling my own place as a FSBO? Potential clients ask me all the time what I think about FSBO. This is my standard answer. I think it's a great idea - if you...
In the news...

"Demographers often describe the baby boom generation as if it were an indigestible mammal - maybe a pig, or a rabbit, or a really big rat - slowly moving through the python that is America's population. As this generation has aged, the baby boom bulge has remade society in its image, first as a massive class of toddlers, later as rabble-rousers in the 1960s, then as solidly middle-class heads of household and, soon, as the largest class of retirees the country has ever seen..."

Greetings!

Welcome back to "How's the Market?"   I trust everyone is back from vacation and is only too ready for Spring.  I'm reminded of the lyrics of the wonderful song from Oklahoma,
"March came in like a lion, a whippin' up the water in the bay..."

What a March!  Meteorologically, it was less than ideal.  But on the positive side, the housing market seems to breaking out of its doldrums and we are seeing incredible activity with contracts being written, sales closing and new listings.  Just to give you a sense of it, we had 406 homes go under contract on the North Shore during the month of March.  By comparison, in March of 2012 there were 288 contracts; in March 2011 - 219 contracts.  What an improvement!!

Stay tuned and see what happens in April.  All signs are positive!

Just the facts...

So how is the market?  In one word - HOT!  After years of malaise, it feels like things are finally taking off and we're actually seeing some shortages of inventory.

Read more from the owners of Prudential Rubloff, Chris Eigel and Michael Pierson.  They had to revise their January forecast, because everything seems to be improving quickly.

"The conventional wisdom is that buyers and sellers go together like oil and water. That is to say, they don't go together at all. Some say they are at odds simply by virtue of sitting across the bargaining table from one another, which - along with negotiation and legal issues that are par for the home buying course - create the presumption that they want totally different things...."
