Back to School
The start of a new school year is always an exciting and busy time of year. Here are a few tips to get off to a good start:
- Attend meet the teacher events or send an email and introduce yourself to your child's teacher(s)
- Share your contact information
- The best time to reach you
- Also let the teacher know if you would like to volunteer and how you can help
- Scan or copy your child's IEP or 504 Plan and provide a copy to each of their teachers. If a teacher will not be working on your child's IEP goals, then you may just want to give a copy of the accommodation page.
- Setup a record keeping binder for this school year. You should keep copies of your child's current IEP, evaluations, report cards, correspondence with staff and work samples in reverse chronological order. Having all of this information about your child at your fingertips will help you prepare to be a member of your child's IEP/504 Team.
We hope you have a wonderful 2016-17 school year. If you do run into concerns or have questions, remember to check out our HOPE Advocacy services on the FND Manasota website.
