Extended School Year

What is extended school year?

Special education and related services provided to students with disabilities beyond the regular 180-day school year are called extended school year (ESY) services. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), school districts must provide ESY services if the student requires those services in order to receive a free appropriate public education. The most common reason why a student receives ESY services is because it is feared that the student will regress (or lose progress) in critical life skills during time off from school. School districts are not required to provide ESY services to all students with disabilities-only to those who require ESY services.

If you believe your child may need ESY, contact your IEP team coordinator to schedule a meeting or find out if your child's IEP can be amended to add the services without the team getting together.

Annual Conference

Thinking About YOU, Thinking About ME

is an intensive one-day conference featuring the work of The Social Thinking Methodology created by Michelle Garcia Winner, a Congressional-award-winning speech-language pathologist.  The Social Thinking Methodology teaches individuals how to think about the social world in order to communicate more effectively. The practical frameworks and strategies help people learn to interpret and respond to abstract social information and produce related social skills for use in the classroom, home and community.

Watch for registration information soon.

Please contact Mary Smith if your business or organization is interested in being a conference sponsor.
