It's hard to believe that there is only a little more than 2 months left in the school year. Where did this school year go? Now is the time to be discussing with your IEP team about Extended School Year services, getting your child's IEP ready for next year, and looking in to what summer programs are available for your child.
During the next school year you won't want to miss out on our annual disability conference when nationally known author and speaker Pete Wright with Wrightslaw. Pete will be presenting a one-day intense Special Education and Advocacy conference designed for parents and professionals. This educational opportunity will help you to learn important information on how to advocate for your child and their educational needs while explaining the legal ramifications and information about the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 7th, at Woodland the Community Church from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Visit our website at www.fndmanasota.org to register and reserve your seat. A limited number of parent scholarships will be offered based on need.
In order for FND Manasota to be able to host such an important event, like the Wrightslaw conference, and to provide the many resources and services that we do we conduct several fundraising events throughout the year.
Coming up in May we have two fundraising opportunities that we hope you will consider coming out to and supporting us at.
First on Friday, May 1st we have been chosen as the charity to benefit from Music on Main at Lakewood Ranch Main Street. This event is from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm and offers a variety of food, entertainment, and fun for the whole family. We will be operating the beer and wine tables at the event along with an information booth about FND. We are looking for responsible individuals that would like to volunteer to help us man these booths and help to make this a successful event for us. Please contact Jacki Reynolds at jacki.reynolds@fndmanasota.org
or at (941) 321-1754 to sign up to volunteer.
Then on Sunday, May 3rd we will be hosting our Break the Bank BBQ to finish our Feed the Pig fundraiser. This event will take place at the Sarasota Farm Bureau Pavilion located off of Palmer Road in Sarasota from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm. We would like to invite all of our supporters to come out even if you did not take a piggy bank to fill. Click here to learn how to register to attend the event. It's not too late to take a piggy bank and start filling its empty little tummy. All you have to do is let us know and we will get the pig to you.
Finally we are very pleased to announce that the Parent Mentoring and Support Program for Manatee County families will be able to offer an additional set of training classes starting in August and September, after school resumes. This additional set of classes will be morning classes from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. Be looking for an updated flyer coming soon to your email with more information and details. Becoming an educated and involved parent in your child's education and future is one of the best ways to secure a great outcome for your entire family.
Thanks for All of Your Support,
Mary Smith
