Good Things Happen Every Day
at The Silver Academy

Rachel Zilbering, Principal
Professional development is an ongoing effort for teachers at The Silver Academy. This week, I have been attending a Pennsylvania Inspired Leaders training focused on best practices in teaching mathematics. Next week, two of our teachers will be attending PETE&C, a statewide technology conference held right next door in Hershey, and in March, we have another teacher attending a conference titled "Get Your Teach On". We are committed to continuing our own education and bringing our best ideas and skills to The Silver Academy.
As parents and grandparents, you are the models for lifelong learners in your homes. Did you know that there are many opportunities close to home to keep your own learning going? There are a number of college courses online that are offered for free. If you are interested in refreshing your math skills, check out Khan Academy for excellent videos and practice. An old school suggestion is to visit the local library, which offers endless choices. I have missed being at school this week and seeing the students. I hope to see many of you at our Open House this evening. If you are not able to attend, but would like more information, please be in touch by either email or phone.

1st Graden Judaic Studies
Mrs. Aviva Woodland (Morah Aviva)
Kitah Alef enjoyed learning the Hebrew letter ט Tet and read a story with Ariot "Oh, Oh HaToast". In the story a Tabach Tov (good chef) is excited to make Toast. Unfortunately, the Tabach became distracted by the Televizia and exclaimed "Oh, Oh HaToast" when he realized that his Toast was ruined. Students in Kitah Alef took turns being the Tabach Tov and found the toast in Kitah Alef ta'im m'ode (very tasty)! Students also wrote about their favorite kind of toast. Stop by Kitah Alef and enjoy their work on our bulletin board. Now we are learning the Hebrew letter י Yud, and are learning new vocabulary Yesh (there is), Yad (hand), Yo Yo (yo yo), Yoshev (sit - masc).and Yoshevet (sit - fem).
Kitah Alef has been enjoying learning about trees with our Tu B'Shevat curriculum. They learned different parts of a tree with a song and the words Roeh (see - masc.) and Roah (see - fem).We are reading a humorous book called "Etz Gado, Etz Katan", ("Big Tree, Little Tree"), which makes us think about this world we live in and the contradictions which fortunately for Hillel in the story, small trees have large fruit and big trees have small fruit.
The students of Kitah Alef and Morah Aviva wish you a Shabbat Shalom!

6th Grade General Studies
Mrs. Jessica Wenzelburger
The 6th grade has just finished reading the book My Brother Sam is Dead. This historical fiction focuses on a family torn apart by the Revolutionary War. Usually when we learn about history, we learn about the Patriots. This book, however, focuses on both sides, the Loyalists and the Patriots.
After reading the book, the students chose between two projects. Some students chose to bring a scene from the book to life through the creation of a diorama. Others chose to make a movie poster that used real, contemporary actors and actresses.
