The Silver Academy
Annual Campaign
Rachel Zilbering, Principal

Although I have mentioned this before, it is worth stating again that I have been extremely proud of the generosity that students have shown this year.  In the spirit of tikkun olam and tzedakah, students have held a food drive and donated money to buy pizza for the IDF.  Additionally, a group of students took part in a clean-up day on the grounds of the JCC.  On a daily basis, students take care of the school and show kindness to one another.

The Silver Academy needs your help and generosity now more than ever.  It is no secret that the Pennsylvania State Budget stalemate is well into its sixth month.  Our school, along with many other private schools, receive funding from the EITC and OSTC programs (Educational Improvement Tax Credit/ Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit) which you can read about here: EITC and OSTC Programs Info .  Without a state budget in place, the EITC program is efficitively on hold, which is putting great financial strains on the school.

Please consider a gift to the Silver Academy's Annual Campaign, which is more important this year than ever.  If you have not made a contribution to the Silver Academy Annual Campaign, please consider doing so. If you have, please consider increasing your donation, if you are able. No gift is too small and we sincerely appreciate your consideration.  You can donate online at www.SilverAcademypa.org/Donate-Now  or by calling our Director of Development, Shari Dym at 717-238-8775.

SHABBAT SHALOM  שבת שלום -

Inside the Classroom

Kindergarten Judaic Studies
Mrs. Sally Jo Bronner

Kindergarten is reeling from an exciting week of Chanukah celebrations.  Each day we worked on Chanukah themed activities including crafts, candle lighting blessings, and stories. The week culminated with a visit from Meyer's mother and grandmother who helped us make fruit and yogurt chanukiyot and marshmallow dreidels!  Mmmmmm!

Our class is doing a terrific job of learning tefilot.  The boys  have learned to say the blessing on their Tzittzit, and are eager to wear them. Each child looks forward to being the Chazan/Chazanit an it, which entitles them to  lead prayers, choose tunes, and sit next to Morah Sarah. The Chazan also gets to take Bentzi home for shabbat, a very special treat.

6th Grade General Studies
Mrs. Jessica Wenzelburger

The 6th Grade has been busy learning about the rainforest and its creatures. Each student has chosen an endangered animal found in one of the world's rainforests to study. They used their research skills to jump into the rainforest and learn about animals that are endangered today. Each student chose an animal and discovered interesting facts about it. The students are spreading the word about supporting their animal by creating buttons or pins to promote saving the rainforest and the special animals that call it home. Stop by our room next week to see the students' final products on display!
