Good Things Happen Every Day at
The Silver Academy!
Rachel Zilbering, Principal

Welcome back, part 2!

After the long stretch of chagim (holidays), it sort of feels like the school year has just begun.  The truth is we were not really "off" during these last few weeks, we've been "on"!

Our students have been observing holidays both at synagogue and at home.  We've been gathering with family and friends for festive meals.  Hopefully everyone had the chance to eat a meal in a sukkah before the rain came to Pennsylvania.

One of my great joys is seeing The Silver Academy students outside of school, engaged in Jewish life.  I was pleased to see many of our students at the community Tashlich ceremony along the Susquehanna River and the Sukkah Hop in Uptown Harrisburg, among other events.

Looking ahead, please mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 4, for our "Annual Campaign Souper Kickoff".  The details are listed below.  I hope to see you there!

  • Creation of the universe and the human race

b. Second day: Firmament
c. Third day: Sea, land, and vegetation
d. Fourth day: Heavenly bodies
e. Fifth day: Fish and birds
f. Sixth day: Land, animals and human beings
g. Seventh day: Shabbat - Day of Rest
  • Freedom of choice - Sin and Punishment. Adam and Eve eat of the forbidden fruit and are expelled from the Garden of Eden.
  • Cain and Abel - G-d accepts Abel's offering. Cain becomes jealous and kills his brother Abel. Cain learns of his punishment, which is to wander the earth.

Holiday-Themed Gift Sale
Friday, October 9, 2:30

In conjunction with Kabbalat Shabbat, there will be a sale of great gifts and home items! Through a generous donation from Beth El Sisterhood, we have many holiday-themed gifts (Shabbat, Pesach, and Hanukkah) and toys for purchase prior to Kabbalat Shabbat. The collection of menorahs alone is extraordinary!

The tables will be lining our hallways this Friday, and we look forward to seeing you! All proceeds will go to the Silver Academy, allowing the school to continue enriching the lives of our students each and every day.

If you would like to browse but cannot make it
to the Kabbalat Shabbat sale, please contact Judith Hodara ([email protected]) to arrange to come by another time.

Come out and support Silver Academy!
