Welcome back!
|
The first week of school was a busy one at The Silver Academy. Before school even began, almost the entire school was at Green Hills for a back to school BBQ. We were lucky to have a beautiful evening of swimming, eating and reuniting. Early the next morning, students arrived by bus, car and foot for the first day of school. The first day of school coincided with Rosh Chodesh Elul and during the school wide assembly, we were all awoken from our summer slumber by the blowing of the shofar. We look forward to getting to know all of the students and parents over the course of the school year. |

לקדשו CANDLE LIGHTING - 7:12 PM HAVDALAH - 8:13 PM SHABBAT PARSHAT KI TEZE - DEUTERONOMY 21:10 - 25:19 הסכום - Summary - This Torah portion is a continuation of Moses' farewell address.
- Moses reviews a variety of Laws which are intended to strengthen family life and human decency in Israel. Some of the many laws follow:
- Parents are responsible for the education of their children.
- Never cheat a hired worker whether he is one of your people or a stranger who lives in your land. You shall pay him every day when his day's work is done.
- Be especially truthful when a matter concerns a stranger, an orphan, or a widow.
- Do not use two sets of weights and measures; you must use perfect and exact ones, both for buying and selling.
- Tzar Ba-alay Hayim - Kindness to animals - The Biblical law was very concerned about the treatment of animals. It was forbidden to harness together two animals of different species: an ox and a donkey differ in strength and size. A paring of this kind could cause suffering to the animals.
