הסכום - Summary

  • This Torah portion is a continuation of the preceding portion, enlarging upon the description of the sacrificial offerings.
  • All the Israelites were assembled before the Tabernacle as Moses made it holy.
  • The portion then continues with the ordination of Aaron and his sons as priests.
  • An additional portion is read on the Shabbat before Purim (Shabbat Zachor).
  • It deals with the injunction to remember the horrendous attack of Amalek upon the Israelites.
  • Its connection to Purim is related to the fact that Haman was related to the Amalekites, who were archenemies of Israel.

Hebrew  in the Eighth Grade

Can you believe it is only five and a half weeks until the 8th grade students leave for Israel? They are very excited! As a final preparation we started a special program, "Passport to Israel", where students learn practical Hebrew for the trip. They are practicing how to talk in Hebrew to the security personnel of "El Al", how to read a Hebrew airline ticket and understand where to go in the airport, how to ask for help on a plane, order food and talk to store keepers, and ask where to go for fun in Israel. They are also learning some everyday Hebrew slang ... It is all talking, talking, talking ... in Hebrew.
