6th and 7th Grades Social Studies with Ms. Roseman
In the Social Studies class, the 6th and 7th grades have been studying the Roman world. We talked about life in the empire and the foods that were served at a Roman banquet. Some of the choices for appetizers were jellyfish and eggs, sow's udders stuffed with sea urchins, or broiled tree fungi with peppered fish-fat sauce. The main course may have consisted of boiled ostrich with sweet sauce or roasted parrot. Then, the meal would be topped off with a dessert of stewed roses with pastry or stoned dates. Above are the students replications of these delectable platters! Enjoy!

Silver Academy Gets in the Olympic Spirit by Patty Schwab
Let the games begin! On Friday February 7th, as every nation welcomed the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Winter Olympics, the Silver Academy welcomed an Olympic themed breakfast. With students dressed to represent their favorite country as well as their favorite Olympic sport, the Wolfson Auditorium was jam-packed for a Student Council sponsored breakfast and school store. Parents, grandparents, teachers, and JCC faculty welcomed the opening games with a delicious breakfast of champions. We had on hand a real torch from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and families were able to pose holding the torch. Congratulations to the Silver Academy Student Council for "winning the gold medal" and hosting this fabulous community event.

Jennifer Lench
Which years did you attend The Silver Academy? I attended Yeshiva Academy 1st through 9th grades. That was 1971-1980. My graduating class had 9 students. Back then, high school started in 10th grade so that is why we went to the Yeshiva through 9th grade.
Where did you grow up? I lived in Lower Paxton Township. Where did you go to school after the Silver Academy? I graduated from Central Dauphin High School and Pennsylvania State University.
What do you do? I am a fiscal monitoring analyst for the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) for the Commonwealth of PA.
What was your favorite class at The Silver Academy? My favorite class was 6th grade English with Mrs. Gail Shamash.
Who was your best friend at The Silver Academy? Ora Panitz was my best friend in my class. Debbie Leopold was my best friend in another grade.
What was a favorite memory of The Silver Academy? My favorite memory was in 1976 when we celebrated the Bicentennial. We made costumes including bonnets that we sewed, and the entire school was dressed up for that day.
