Inside the Classroom - 2nd Grade

We recently finished up a "Whale of a Unit!" For two weeks, we researched various whales including the world's largest mammal, the Blue Whale. We were shocked to find out that dolphins are also whales. Using a graphic organizer, students researched the whale of their choice. Then, they wrote several paragraphs describing their whale. Through experimentation, we were able to experience how blubber keeps animals warm. By creating a "Blubber Glove," we were able to keep our hands warm in a tub of freezing cold water! In another experiment, we discovered how density works. Stop by our bulletin board to read our reports and whale tales!

Inside the Classroom - 7th Grade

In our class we were busy learning different kinds of stories, writing poetry, crunching grammar rules,  doing projects, and, of course, talking, talking, talking in Hebrew.

One of the last topics was learning about the city of Safed and reading interesting stories about this unique place. We also did research, every child made a travel guide with advertisement of the city and presented it to the class. Now we can't wait to visit it and see everything with our own eyes.

In preparation for Tu Bi'Shvat we were discussing the main ideas of this holiday and why trees are so important in the lives of the people. In many different sources like Torah, Talmud, Pirkei Avot, people are often compared to trees. So, we had interesting discussions about how trees are like people. All the children did art projects demonstrating this relationship, accompanied their drawings by explanations in Hebrew and presented the projects. You can see these projects on the Bulletin Board outside the seventh grade classroom.

Attention parents!  Flu season is now in full swing and I want to just remind you to practice good hand washing techniques so your children will learn from your example.  Once again, the best way to stay healthy is to wash hands frequently.  Please read the following article from KidsHealth and share with your family.  As the side note states, 22 million school days were lost last year due to the common cold!

Why washing your hands is so important
