Q&A with Nikhil Khushalani, MD: Treating Advanced Cancers with the Immunotherapy, High-dose Interleukin-2 (IL-2)
Read an interview with Dr. Nikhil Khushalani, Section Chief of Soft Tissue and Melanoma and Director of the IL-2 Program at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI), about the use of high-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2) for the treatment of melanoma and kidney cancers and the clinical trials currently underway to investigate the response of IL-2 in patients.

Phase II Trial Evaluating Cabozantinib in Thyroid Cancer
Most early stage thyroid cancer can be cured through surgery, however, there is a small number of patients who have less than a 50% chance of survival.  For these patients, RPCI has a phase II trial evaluating Cabozantinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting c-MET and VEGFR, as a second line therapy.  Patients eligible will be those who have progressed on exactly one line of prior VEGFR-targeted therapy.  Contact Dr. Yujie Zhao at Yujie.Zhao@RoswellPark.org

RPCI's Diagnosis and Treatment Approach for Neuroendocrine and Carcinoid Tumors
Neuroendocrine and carcinoid tumors are rare and it takes specialized skills and equipment to diagnose them.  Because symptoms may not appear, tumors are often discovered when tests and procedures are performed for other purposes.  Once the tumors are detected, it is very important to know whether a tumor is a neuroendocrine tumor or a different kind of cancer tumor because the treatments are vastly different.

Dr. Renuka Iyer, Associate Professor of Oncology, explains how to diagnose these rare tumors and the treatment options available at RPCI for neuroendocrine and carcinoid tumor patients.
