She will help you:
  • Understand the different ways men and women build and manage relationships

WBES, NEED $5000?
Photo of Lillie Knox
LILLIE KNOX INVESTING FOR GROWTH AWARD

Women business owners, could you use extra cash to grow your business?

By identifying a critical business need and completing the application you could potentially receive up to $5,000 cash through the Lillie Knox Investing for Growth Award!

Each year at the Harvesting Partnerships Lillie R. Knox Memorial Luncheon, an award of up to $5,000 is given in Lillie's memory. This year's luncheon will be held on September 5, 2013, at the Hyatt Regency DFW Hotel.

Why apply? Hear from a past award recipient.

As every woman business owner knows, shrinking profit margins makes purchasing new equipment or software programs seem like an impossibility. Our business was facing the challenge of achieving stronger marketing results, and we determined that purchasing a new software program would benefit our business. But it was difficult to justify the price of the software. Through the Lillie Knox Award, we were able to purchase the program and improve our marketing strategies. Lillie Knox has created a lasting legacy to all women business owners who receive the award named in her honor.

- Sharon Garman, The RoArk Group, Inc.

The recipient(s) needs to be a certified-WBE member(s) of WBCS who has identified a critical need in her business that, if met, will support the growth and development of her business.

The cash award may fully (or partially) fund this need and may include, but is not limited to, equipment purchase, technical development or upgrade, consulting services, strategic planning, website development, planning or education.

Applications are due by July 31, 2013.

If you are interested in making a tax deductible donation to the Lillie Knox Investing for Growth Award, please call Flo Cox (817-299-0566 ext 203) with your credit card information, or mail a check payable to: WBCS, 2201 N. Collins St., Ste 158, Arlington, TX 76011
 MINDFUL WOMEN RECAP

This year at the Mindful Women event, held June 11, 2013 at Maggiano's North Park, the topic was Sparking WBE Connections that Matter, and we can tell you first hand, there was a humming buzz in the room!

The traditional panel and discussion series was re-energized this year by allotting significant time to one-on-one conversations between WBEs. Those in attendance made connections by discussing some of their business needs and several attendees left making more than one impactful contact.

TUCK EXECUTIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM
The 2013 Tuck-WBENC Executive Program, brought to you by IBM will be held October 6th to 11th, 2013 at the IBM Dolce Palisades facility in Palisades, NY.

The Tuck-WBENC Executive Exchange Program is an intensive, five-day executive development program for WBENC-Certified Women's Business Enterprises (WBEs). It is an intensive learning experience that focuses primarily on increasing the competitive advantage and robustness of the participant's own business. Up to 50 WBE attendees will form a learning community that will continue to provide a source of support, expertise, opportunities, and strategic alliances long after graduation.

This general management program is designed to help WBEs that are beyond the startup phase to assess, improve and grow their businesses. To survive and prosper in today's fast-moving, highly volatile business climate, WBEs must ensure they have all the essential components of a highly integrated business, such as:
  • Clear and focused strategy
  • Superior value
  • Optimal core business processes
  • Motivated and empowered staff
  • Carefully managed relationships for long-term success
"The Tuck Executive program was transformational on so many levels. The experience challenges you, both personally and professionally, thus prompting you to seek deeper understanding of your business from marketing, sales, financial and socially impactful views. The content and instruction far exceeded my expectations. I know my company will grow exponentially and the friendships and accountability partners I have gained from the class will no doubt be further reason for our forthcoming growth. Your business cannot afford to miss this class."

ALLIANCE TEXAS PROCUREMENT FIAR
On June 25, the WBCS returned to the Alliance Texas Small Business Procurement Fair held at the Texas Rangers Stadium. What a view behind our booth!

A primary challenge for business is to be aware of current regulations and guidelines; education sessions provided current information on emerging new standards and provided tools to bid and contract successfully, gain valuable information and share success stories. Included in a panel discussion were two of our WBEs, Wanda Granier, President, BridgeWorkPartners and Donna Clemons, President, Joy Promotions Inc.

The conference also provided opportunities to meet buyers and contracting officers from major military bases, the surrounding states, and large companies to discuss business opportunities.

POWER OF PARTNERING
7th Annual PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS®

International Women's Economic Summit

July 29th to 30th, 2013

PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® is a business training and mentorship program for women entrepreneurs in Afghanistan and Rwanda.  This program is implemented through three major components, In-Country Education, Leadership Development, and Train the Trainer, which combine to create a continuing program to educate women, promote their business and leadership skills, build a strong public policy agenda in the women's business community and to help build stable democracies.

The Peace Through Business program is a real eye-opener. Here in the US, we take so much for granted. As women business owners we have organizations to support us, peer groups to mentor us, and corporations who look to do business with us.  That's not true in Afghanistan and Rwanda!  I've volunteered with the Peace Through Business program three different years including leading a workshop, working with the women business owners and hosting an Afghan woman in my home. It's been fun to learn about their countries and culture and share my knowledge with them. If you are looking for a way to "pay it forward" volunteer for this program.
