| ALL ABOUT AUSTIN |
September Austin Council Connection Recap
At our September Austin Council Connection Luncheon, Kirsten Cutshall, president of Steel Branding, presented a very interesting program on branding. We learned some history of the well known brands in the U.S., as well as how to determine what your company's brand should be. It's more than just your name and logo - you have to determine how you want to be remembered and known in business.
October Austin Council Connection
On October 30, the luncheon will feature Gene Vasconi, local author, speaker, and award-winning veteran television producer/director who owns his own video production company. Gene will teach us how to organize, create and disseminate a business web video that reflects your image and also generates interest in your business. He'll use video examples, demonstrations of hardware and software, plus provide a wealth of experience from his long career in commercial television.
Gene is making a special offer to our luncheon attendees! He will be selling his book Say What: Do You Really Know What You Are Communicating? for the super low price of just $10. This is a must have for anyone attempting to succeed in today's business world. This is your guidebook for the complex communication world we live in today. It simply and quickly points you in the right direction and stops you from making costly mistakes.
Please join us on Tuesday, October 30 at Chez Zee on Balcones Drive in Austin. Registration and networking starts at 11:15 with lunch beginning at noon and Gene's program from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
We always have a great group of attendees from the Austin business community, a delicious lunch, and it's all highlighted by informative programs from people interested in helping you succeed in business.
October 24 - Save The Date
The Texas Conference for Women will be held in Austin on October 24, 2012, at the Austin Convention Center.
Be sure to use the WBCS code TXCP98 when you register, to receive the special discount!
This year, representatives from the WBCS and Women's Business Enterprise Alliance (WBEA) will join together to be sure we have the whole state covered as we offer information on national WBENC certification, membership in the Councils, and benefits both Councils can offer women-owned businesses and corporations.
The Conference features nationally recognized speakers who share their wisdom and expertise on a wide range of personal and professional development topics, helping you find clarity on your goals and what you need to accomplish them. This is a very empowering event for women, and WBCS is happy to be a Supporting Organization.
We encourage you to learn more and register! |

Little Rock Luncheon Recap
The WBCS held a luncheon in Little Rock on September 25. The luncheon was sponsored by Fluor and Windstream Communications.
Linda Nelson, District Director for the Arkansas Small Business Administration, was the speaker. She updated the audience on the progress of the Women Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Certification and provided information on the various resources available for those interested in applying for the certification. She also touched on the numerous services the SBA provides to small businesses.

Kim Randle, Regional Outreach Manager for Clean Line Energy Partners, discussed the Clean Line Energy project. This project, a partnership between Fluor and Pike Electric, is developing high voltage direct current transmission line projects that will deliver thousands of megawatts of renewable energy. With a strong focus of using local suppliers, Kim provided information on how to register a business in their database. They are currently in the process of identifying local businesses that could assist with the development, construction and maintenance of the transmission line project.
Thank you to everyone that attended. |
