First speakers announced for Focal Point 2016 
Focal Point 2016 will feature a full day of presentations by accomplished industry experts. This year's conference will detail innovations in paper-based food packaging and service ware for improved performance and greater market penetration. Hear brand owner perspectives and innovative ideas across the value chain. We're pleased to announce two of the speakers already scheduled for the annual conference, October 18 at UW-Stevens Point. Lynn M. Dyer
Lynn M. Dyer is president of the Foodservice Packaging Institute (FPI), the trade association representing the foodservice packaging industry in North America. Members include packaging converters and their raw material and machinery suppliers, as well as foodservice operators, distributors and group purchasing organizations. Lynn has dedicated nearly 20 years of her career to the foodservice packaging industry. At FPI, she's been an advocate for the industry through dozens of communications, marketing, public affairs and technical initiatives. Her focus over the last few years has been facilitating the industry's voluntary recovery work through FPI's Paper Recovery Alliance, Plastics Recovery Group and Foam Recycling Coalition. Prior to joining FPI in 1998, Lynn worked with the European Food Service & Packaging Association (now Pack2Go Europe) in Brussels, Belgium. Lynn holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond.

Kelly L. Helein
Kelly L. Helein brings 25 years of experience in sales, marketing and product development for specialty paper companies, converters and major brand owners. She has worked for Wisconsin Tissue (SCA), Little Rapids Corporation, Banta Healthcare (Tidi Products) and Thilmany (Expera). Sales and development projects have focused on driving product innovation with high profile customers such as ConAgra, Nestles, Waterpik, Mondi, Johnson and Johnson, Becton Dickinson and Zeiss. Kelly serves on the U.S. Advisory Board for Smithers Pira/TAPPI, the Paper Discovery Center/Paper International Hall of Fame and the Northeast Wisconsin Land Trust. She and her husband, Greg, reside in Appleton, Wisconsin where they have three children. Currently employed with Daikin-America, Kelly is a Business Development Executive.

Introduction to Papermaking Additives
  There's still time to register for this two-day course, offered June 1-2. Gain an overview of common papermaking additives used today. With morning classroom sessions and afternoons on the UW-Stevens Point pilot paper machine, you'll quickly gain practical knowledge to apply in your own work. The course is taught by Dr. Gerry Ring, professor emeritus and former chair of the UW-Stevens Point Paper Science and Engineering Program. Coating and Lamination in Packaging Applications
Dr. Roland Gong, assistant professor of paper science and engineering at UW-Stevens Point, covers the basics of coating and laminating in this two-day course. Course dates are July 21-22; register by June 21 for best price. Beginning with discussion of materials and properties (monolayer and multilayer; layer functions, surface properties and more), then continuing through methods, operations and trouble shooting, this course provides a thorough introduction to coating and lamination. Participants receive eight hours of classroom instruction plus four hours of hands-on experience using the Faustel pilot coating and laminating line.
