NEWSLETTER

November 2015

Sorry, I know, this
Newsletter is late!

Well, it's that time of year again when I need to take a temporary hiatus from writing this Newsletter until spring and start to think more about our much, much needed hibernation for mental and physical rejuvenation. I know the crew here is overwhelmingly unanimous in their desire for it.

Remember, we are not totally closed.... just sorta, kinda, mostly,  90%ish so if you need something just call to make sure someone will be here to service your needs. It may not be immediately as we normally try to do but we will be sorta, kinda around. Sold the Condo on the ocean in Aruba so...haha

It has been a great year all in all and Ava and I both hope that everyone is totally satisfied with any purchases you have made here or landscaping we have installed.

As far as what you need to do for your landscaping etc.
yet this year....

November To Do's

1. Put your final high nitrogen fertilizer on your lawn sometime after your last mowing but prior to Thanksgiving. And, yes, we have exactly what you need for sale here at the Nursery.

2.Blow, mulch up or rake up excess leaves from your lawn and landscape beds.

3. Drain all of your fountains. Pull the pumps and store away in a safe and "memorable" place. Make sure they are good and dry on the inside and then stuff some rags or burlap in the water holding areas to absorb any winter water condensation. Cover tightly with a small tarp or plastic.

Oh, and don't forget to disconnect any hoses you might have yet attached to an outside faucet. Do you need to actually drain any of these?

4. Make sure your landscape plants are put to bed for the winter with a nice layer of mulch to keep them all snugly and warm.

5. Since we have had a couple of good frosts to actual freezes you can go ahead and prune anything that you want to or need to or just forget about everything until March.
But that is your call! Personally, I would wait and enjoy the winter interest especially when they get a coating of snow on them.
Of course, it goes without saying but I'll say it anyway. If you want the pruned, clean look like you had in the spring and summer and are unable to or don't want to do it....by all means give us a call. We will be happy to make everything look perfect for you for the winter season!

6. And finally, Make sure your plants, especially evergreens such as hollies and boxwoods have a good watering before the ground freezes unless of course we start to get some good rains which we normally do this time of year.

and that's about it for the year!

Now on to some good stuff!!

I Know....

Halloween
is over
but....

What

IS

this creature

Lurking about

our

Homes?????

Simple answer: Marbled Orb Weaver spider.

He/She is harmless and they do not BITE people. They can however become a slight nuisance in the fall when they make their webs close to a home.

Ugly sucker! Scares the Bajeebees out of me!

Thanks CR for the photo

 Ok....

Now

Sit Back and Relax

while you check out

some

  Before & After pics

Before

Picture if you can.....An in-ground swimming pool with concrete walks all around up to a wall (to right) that is starting to collapse from poor construction techniques.

The existing wall to the right in the photo was completely dismantled and moved to the side entrance and used as as extension to an existing wall in that location as you will see later in these pictures.

It took an additional 100 ton of gravel and topsoil to bring this area up to grade.

What a difference 3 weeks makes.

Notice the pretty new replacement wall on the left?

Here you can see the new upper retaining wall also and new sections of masterfully constructed (smile) privacy fence replicating the older existing fence.

In order to control the massive amounts of rain water that come off this hill, 6" PVC drains with 4" connectors and catch basins at edge of fence were installed together with supplemental 4" Flex pipe French drains and run throughout the area.

New pathways were installed using all rocks that had existed in the previous landscape. Every stone was utilized which numbered in the hundreds. Steps and natural retaining walls were made from the larger stone while smaller ones were used to edge the pathways to separate gravel from mulched planting beds.

The partial sunlit area does not produce the best photos or maybe it's my old Kodak but believe me it is gorgeous!

Ok.....you can take a breather here for just a second....

Yes, this is a Breather!

Now if you're.... f-i-n-a-l-l-y.... done resting,

Can we p-l-e-a-s-e

Front Side Entrance?

Same House

Yep! "Them there is" the old wall block which we took apart in the back. Even made a nice step in it for access to upper level.

Homeowner wanted a rectangular planting bed in lower section so that's what is seen in the center area.
And that's the very last of the rock collected on site.

Nice steps....Nice sod...Beautiful reclaimed wall stone.... and again, plenty of upper drainage even behind the garage.

If you would have gone up the steps and turned to your left this is what you would see. This will eventually be all grass come spring and the back yard where the other 2 walls and paths are located will be easily accessible from here through the gate in background.

This narrow area was also our only ingress and egress from the driveway on north side of house to the back pool area on the south side without trashing the neighbors property. This really slowed down daily progress but....

It turned out
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

Whew!!!...I think that's all!

OH....WAIT!!!!!

By the way....

Have a GREAT Thanksgiving....

and....

Don't forget the importance of
November 11th

BUT......

MOST

IMPORTANTLY....

THANK YOU!!!!!!
