What to do in April

Well, You know, basically the stuff on the March list you were suppose to do and either didn't get finished or just hadn't started yet.

Plus....

This is the perfect month to divide any of your perennials that have gotten too big for the area in which they are located such as Hostas, Black-eyed-Susan, Asters and Daylilies among others. Not only will dividing them make the area look better being less crowded but it will also help them to breathe a bit and they will bloom a whole lot better. Just think how good it feels to finally make your way through a large jamb packed crowd......ahhhhhhhhhhhh.....

This is also a perfect time to divide any ornamental grasses that have either grown to large in diameter or the centers have died out and they look like a donut. Either dig out parts of the clump or dig up the entire grass and replant any size smaller clump you desire. Just make sure the clump you replant actually has roots on it.

Plus....

Again, get that lawn pre-emergent down to keep the crabgrass from ruining your beautiful lawn. Hint: Come see us. We have exactly what you need!

Plus....

It's

time to

get out the

feeders......

Cuz feeding this way is far too time consuming....

and...I KNOW you have to squint a wee bit but here is a map showing just how far these little guys and gals have already come as of March 30th... so-o-o-o.... Indiana isn't that far off you know????

If you're not sure just exactly "where" Indiana IS on this map,
don't worry about the Hummingbirds!

Plus....

and this is Very Important.....

This Is the
Emerald Ash Borer
( EAB)

and if you were not listening to all of my warnings in the past

you may want to listen NOW!!!

The EAB has been recently found active in the following areas. If you live within 15 Miles of any of these locations and want to save your ASH TREES then NOW is the time to DO IT!!!

April 2014 East of Brooksburg, In.
June 2014   Holton, In.
August 2014 Lexington, In.
December 2014  Canaan, In.
December 2014  Dupont, In.
December 2014  Friendship, In.

If you spot this insect anywhere please call the Indiana Department of Natural Resources at
1-866-No Exotic
1-866 - 663-9684

If you do not want to lose YOUR ash trees there are 2 possible remedies at your disposal.

1. DIY applications of Imidicloprid as a soil drench around your trees in early April to mid May when leaves are growing. This active ingredient is found in Bayer Advanced Tree & Shrub Insecticide. Bonide also makes a comparable product so look for the active ingredient Imidiclopride. If done properly under the right conditions and all label instructions are followed, this will protect your tree for the entire year.
Hint: These products are available here at the nursery.

and / or

2. Have your trees directly injected with Emamectin benzoate insecticide by a licensed professional. This is the safest and best method to insure total uptake of the insecticide into the tree and will give you at least 2 years of protection.

NOTE: Beaver Creek Nursery IS the ONLY company in this area licensed by the State Chemist's Office to perform this type of operation.

So, if you are concerned...please call.

If you would like to read more about this nasty little creature then     Click Here
and read the article in a previous Newsletter titled
"Are you under Attack?"

Belvedere Dr., Toledo, Ohio

Before and After EAB

And PLEASE remember....if you do nothing to stop the EAB then you will absolutely either be spending countless hours of your valuable time cutting down and disposing of your ash trees or spending the thousands of dollars needed to have your trees professionally removed in the near future.

Time is of the Essence!
