Well, It's November. And unfortunately for those of you that have been around here for awhile you know what that means....the ending of another year and the end of these Newsletters until spring.

I know, I know.....it's a sad time for all of us. But take heart in the fact that it's also a great time to relax a bit and let the mind and body rejuvenate over the winter. Ahhh winter....no more grass cutting, no more weeds to pull, no moles, no mosquitoes, no running around to soccer and baseball games.....Ahhhh winter....a time to just lay back for a change and plan ahead for next years spring projects.

However, if you still have some excess energy, there are a few things you can do yet this fall in preparation for next spring.

1. Plant trees. Again this is the perfect time of year to plant trees especially evergreens.....HINT!

2. Don't forget to drain your fountain/s if you are a proud owner. Remember to take out the pump, drain all the water, let it dry out, stuff it with a bunch of rags or burlap or anything absorbent and cover tightly with a tarp or plastic.

3. Make sure all your plants are mulched in well just in case we have a repeat of last winter's polar vortex. You want to keep your plants all warm and snugly you know!

4. You can prune now if you like since we have had a couple of hard frosts and a good freeze or wait until spring.

5. And lastly, sometime before the end of the month and after your last mowing don't forget to apply your fall lawn fertilizer to make your grass all tingly and happy come spring.

Oh.....and remember

We are still here working on taking our winter cuttings,
finishing up on quite a few landscaping installs and a host of other end of season tasks. So if you need something please don't hesitate to call and come by. You know....Gift Certificates are a great Christmas gift!!

You guessed it....A Spricket!!!

A Spricket?????

Yeh, Well that's what I said...
A Spricket??? ...Right!!!

Until recently, when I was told about this critter by a friend I was totally unaware of it's existence. And...I hope I am not alone in that revelation.

So, I went straight to the source of all absolute truth...????
the internet!!
And sure enough, according to Wikipedia, this creature really does exist!...Who would have thought it?

According to this source, this "spricket" belongs to a family of species called "Rhaphidophoridae". If you can say that one even once without a drink I'll give ya a 20! Three times in rapid succession and I'll make it a hundred!

Anyway, it is also known as a camelback cricket, a spider cricket and a cave cricket. Some even refer to them as criders and sand treaders for what ever reason.

These sprickets are normally found in cool, damp places such as caves, deep forests, under stones, rotten logs, and....this is the part that concerns most of us....also in cellars, basements and even dark, damp showers!.....Boooooooooooo!!!

And although they are completely harmless, because they spend almost all of their life in the dark, they have developed an acute sense of touch. So, when a perceived threat such as
a person comes within close contact, the "spricket" will actually jump towards you ( the intruder ) with their powerful hind legs like a cricket, trying to scare you away.....Now that could be a bit frightening!

So, how do I keep them away?????
Eliminate all damp, dark places in your surroundings and they will gladly leave. Now that's simple. Otherwise.......

DO DO DO DO DO DO DO DO!!!!!!
