1. Perfect time to buy and plant trees....HINT....HINT....HINT!!!
2. Remember, the unofficial cutoff date for sowing lawn seed
is October 15th. So....better get at it if it's on your To Do list!
3. Watch out for the Marmorated Stink Bug. They are in strong numbers this year and will be looking for a nice warm place to spend the cold winter months....uh...like inside your house. PEW, PEW, PEW! If you want to know more about this little critter
click here and read the article "I'm a Little Stinker".
4. DO NOT prune anything now! Wait until we get a couple of good frosts and leaves start dropping before picking up the clippers. You don't want your plants to start putting on any new growth and get zapped with an early cold spell.
5. Time to plant any bulbs that you want popping up in the spring.
6. If you normally plant annuals such as marigolds, spider plants, petunias and a host of others in your landscape each year you can save yourself a small bundle of cash by taking the now dried seed heads and storing them in paper envelopes until spring. Label them and then come late spring after the last possible frost you can sow them right in a bare spot in your beds. A little bit of spring moisture and help from Ma Nature and it won't be long before you will have enough plants for your pleasure and you will have saved enough money to treat yourself to something else....maybe at Beaver Creek...hmmm
and the final thing I can think of for this month is....
6. Towards the end of the month it will be time to put down that last shot of pre-emergent ( Preen or Treflan ) to control the winter weeds.
