Please be informed that we are listing our slate of new Officers for the WAA Board below.  The Annual Members Meeting which includes voting on the new slate of officers will take place on Tuesday September 16th at 7pm herre at the WAA.

Proposed new slate of officers






President: Paula James

     Paula is a Rhode Island School of Design graduate with a BFA in Graphic Design and the recipient of numerous design awards for art direction and design excellence. Her design career has spanned over 30 years. Starting with Herman and Lees Associates in Cambridge, MA, she worked on corporate identity systems for Cambridge Center, His Highness Aga Khan, Polaroid and the U.S. Department of State. In 1981, she relocated to New York City as Art Director for the design firms Corporate Graphics Inc. and Pentagram, where she worked for such clients as Chase, H.J. Heinz Co. and Pfizer Inc. A notable Fortune 500 client base led to her own design business where she was Corporate Art Director for  Amerada Hess Corporation, Irving Trust and The Conference Board. Since moving to RI in 1998, she has been active with such businesses as The Newport Chamber of Commerce and other historic, tourism and hospitality companies, She presently works as a Creative Consultant and Writer.


Vice-President: Robert Lavoie

     Bob Lavoie is a local painter and graphic designer. He was a designer, illustrator and art director at Hasbro for 28 years. After leaving there in 2013 he started spot51design, a graphic and fine arts studio. He has won awards at area shows and has exhibited in local galleries such as Spring Bull Gallery in Newport.


Treasurer: Michael Salk

     Michael has been the Treasurer for WAA for one year. In that time he has been able to implement a robust budget/forecast and shed light on the profitability for all WAA products.  Professionally, Michael is a Capital Management Analyst and has experience in finance in both public and private sectors. Additionally, Michael is a photographer and avid runner in many long distance road races.


Secretary: Robin Beckwith

     Robin moved from Virginia to study at the Rhode Island School of Design and received a BFA in Painting upon graduation. She continued to pursue studies at RISD and receive Certification in Computer Graphics and Decorative Painting. She was employed as a graphic designer for 14 years, and when the company relocated out of state, Robin filled her time with painting. Though her focus has been on painting in transparent watercolor, she's developed an intense interest in experimental painting and finds the discipline of painting from nature and working from an inner vision support one another. Robin is a signature member of the R.I. Watercolor Society, New England Watercolor Society, and North East Watercolor Society, as well as a juried artist member of Wickford Art  Association, North Shore Arts Association, and South County Art Association. She has shown work and won awards in numerous juried shows and exhibitions throughout New England, and won the Gold Award in the New England Watercolor Society's Signature Members Show this year.




   Kim Baker:

       When she isn't teaching the abundant virtues of the comma at Roger Williams School of Law or writing poetry about big hair and Elvis, Kim works to end violence against women and end hunger. A poet, playwright, photographer, and NPR essayist, Kim publishes and edits Word Soup, an online poetry journal that donates 100% of submission fees to food banks. Kim's chapbook of poetry, Under the Influence: Musings about Poems and Paintings, is now available from Finishing Line Press. Kim's photography has appeared in local and national art exhibits, including Bristol Art Museum 50th Anniversary Exhibit; Wickford Art Association's annual Poetry and Art Show; and most recently, the Connecticut Women Artists 85th National Open Juried Exhibit. Kim has been involved for two years organizing the WAA annual Poetry and Art Show, and recently, WAA named Kim as its "House Poet."


   Dennis Dimauro:

       Dennis is a Senior Information Security Risk professional with over fifteen years of experience in technology and risk. Qualifications include a MBA in Global Business Leadership and a number of Information Security certifications. He has extensive experience with risk identification, evaluation, risk response, security control design and implementation to meet regulatory requirements and security best practices. In addition, Dennis is extremely passionate about photography and he enjoys being creative and Connecting with a person, a place or the subject of a picture.


Rebecca Escobar:

       Rebecca studied and earned her BFA at the University of Hartford, where she majored in Printmaking and Art History as a minor. Art has been a great passion in her life from a very young age and she loves it to this day! She loves to draw and paint where she focuses on floral compositions and still lifes. Rebecca enjoys thinking creatively and  "outside the box" in order to get the job done, whether it is working in a group or independently. She is currently studying for her Microsoft Office 2010 Certification and is volunteering at the Wickford Art Association, assisting in the Gallery as well as event planning for upcoming events.


Beth Johnston:

       Beth has been with the WAA for three years. She is an oil painter in the traditional representational/realistic style. She has an MBA and is attending Rhode Island School of Design. She is currently on the board for the South County Art Association, where she also teaches. She is also a past President of the East Greenwich Art Club. Moreover, Beth is a Business Systems Analyst at CVS, a Curator/consultant for New England Farm and Artists, and participates in many New England art festivals.


Erin Walsh:          

Photographer and digital artist and member of the WAA has a passion for photography. Erin is a successful professional in the corporate world.  Erin is a lover of life- one who celebrates being in the moment.  She loves her family & her friends and knows that this is where her heart is. Erin strives to bring creativity into all that she has influence over.  Nature, beauty, relationships and being in the moment are what inspire her to respond creatively.  Erin was the 2014 Chairperson for the WAA Poetry & Art exhibit which included the creation of the 2014 Poetry & Art Book.  When Erin decides to engage in a project you know that you are in good hands.
