Loretta (Lori) Jeremiah
Pastel &Watercolorist
Art has always been a passion in my life. Originally planning to become a fashion designer, I became "side-tracked" into teaching. That teaching career continued for over 30 years teaching art primarily at the high school level. After taking a very long break from my own artwork while my children were growing up, I eagerly picked it up again uponretirement.
Although I have taken various classes and workshops though out the years, including portraiture in pastel with Daniel Greene and watercolor with Lian Quan Zhen, I am mostly self-taught.
My subject interests are varied and my primary mediums are pastel and watercolor. The vibrancy and versatility of the pastel medium lends itself particularly well to rendering light and color in every subject. Of equal inspiration to me is the nature of watercolor. The luminosity and unpredictability of watercolor, along with various natural textures and brilliance of colors, all work together.
Living by the ocean, I have constant inspiration to paint. The ocean waves and beaches are often in my artwork. Black Point in Narragansett is my favorite place.
I enjoy the challenge of being an artist, the constant strive to improve and the endless learning. Mostly it's the enjoyment of creating and experimenting and the freedom to make lots of "happy" mistakes.
Having the opportunity to exhibit work and interact with other artists at the Wickford Art Association is wonderful! I love being a part of this "family"!
Lori has been an instructor in the fine arts at the Wickford Art Association and also various other RI arts organizations for many years as well as doing demos. Lori's achievements include being an award-winning artist all over the New England area. She has often been referred to in the arts community as one of New England's top pastel painters. Lori is also the inspiration to begin WAA's Tuesday open studio group- a year round, ever growing community of artists.
