Weekly excursions to the Metropolitan Museum of Art beginning at the age of three, made quite an impression on Elsie and as a result she fell in love with painting and has continued her pursuit ever since. Elsie has studied over the years extensively and is well-known as an artist and a teacher. She has lectured and given art demonstrations to groups and her writings and artwork have appeared in Rhode Island publications and on television. She has painted and exhibited her work throughout the world, and honors her art commitment daily. Her artwork hangs in private and public collections and speaks of her constant quest as an artist.
Born in Manhattan and raised in Mamaroneck, NY, Elsie came to Rhode Island from upper New York State. After leaving the advertising agency of Horton, Church & Goff in Providence, RI, she returned to her studies and has been teaching art and exhibiting full time since 1980. Her teaching and lectures have included art teaching sessions with adults and children of all ages both privately and in groups at her studio and at Art Museums and Art Associations throughout the United States.
Since 1968 Elsie has maintained studios in Warwick, Jamestown, North Kingstown and in Wickford, Rhode Island where she ran a studio/gallery for fifteen years and also served as President of the Wickford Art Association. She continues to work out of her North Kingstown Studio and also enjoys painting en plein air throughout New England.
Elsie is a contemporary outdoor painter whose colorful and expressive canvases depict the unusual effects of outdoor elements. It has been written that her use of color combined with her ability to capture one moment in time, results in a memorable piece of art. Her paintings can be seen on Elsie's websites where her quarterly newsletter also appears.
