June 2015

June was a crazy month for me!  No Training Seminars but several instances of Onsite Training, most of which were within a days drive of my home.  One took me all the way to Cut Off, LA where my HazMat Employee and RCRA training addressed the transportation of hazardous materials and hazardous waste by vessel in the Gulf of Mexico.  Interesting stuff and it led to an article you'll see in this newsletter.  I also fielded several questions through my website and some of those are included here as well.  Please read, enjoy, and have a safe Fourth of July weekend!

Fireworks and the Hazardous Material Regulations

First published June 27, 2013, I might as well make this an annual publication.  It's hard to believe that something as common as fireworks can be a hazardous material when transported.  Or is it?  I mean, after all they are explosives.  More...

State Authorization of RCRA and the 2015 Definition of Solid Waste Rule

United States What impact will state authorization under RCRA have on the 2015 DSW?  What does it mean in your state?  Does your state have an authorized hazardous waste program?  Learn all this and more in this short article.  More...

The 2015 Definition of Solid Waste Rule:  Revision to Speculative Accumulation

The 2015 DSW will be effective soon (July 13th!)  An earlier article: A Summary of the 2015 DSW summarized the new rule.  This article looks more closely at the revision made to the Speculative Accumulation Provision.  More articles on this topic will follow; stay tuned!

What's Coming Down the Pipeline?

The Regulatory Pipeline

June was a slow month for Rules and Regulations (both proposed and final) and Notices related to the transportation of HazMat and the management of waste.  But "slow" doesn't mean "none", so be sure to check out what made it to the Federal Register in June from the EPA, FAA, FMCSA, FRA, and PHMSA.  More...

Transportation Security for Drivers Class 8 Corrosive Cargo Tank Truck

If you operate a motor vehicle over a public roadway your HazMat Employee training must include a specific component related to Drivers.  Add to that the Security Awareness Training requirement for all HazMat Employees and you have Training HazMat Drivers in Hijacking Prevention.

Dangerous Cargo Manifest for HazMat Transportation by Vessel Container Ship

Completion of the Dangerous Cargo Manifest is a requirement of the carrier, not the shipper.  It replaces the shipping paper on a vessel transporting HazMat.  Surprised? You'll find more surprises in my article on the Requirements of the Dangerous Cargo Manifest.

Do you have a question?

Man with Question Mark

I receive questions all the time from people just like you.  Some of them are customers - past or, I hope future - and some are people I'll never hear from again.  Either way, I enjoy answering their questions as I learn more about the regulations.  Below are some of the questions I've received in the last few weeks related to waste management and HazMat transportation.
