July 2012 - Volume 2

Greetings!

With one exception, the topics for this volume of the bi-monthly newsletter (a little late for July, I know) all came from questions asked by attendees of my training events.  The research I must conduct to answer some questions is good for two primary reasons:  the first is it provides material for my articles; the second is it results in a better understanding of the regulations.  So keep the questions coming.
The exception referred to above is the article about Judge Ken Reilly.  Whether you knew him or not, take a moment to read this article about a man who achieved success with his own training business; a model I hope to emulate.

RCRA Training for Facility Personnel Requires an Annual Refresher

40 CFR 265.16 requires an annual refresher of the initial training for all Facility Personnel of a Large Quantity Generator of hazardous waste.  Does "annual" mean every 12 months?  Or 365 days?  Or just try your best?  Read on to learn how you must ensure your Facility Personnel retain their knowledge and skills regarding hazardous waste.

Testing and Recordkeeping for HazMat Employees

Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements After a Shipment of Hazardous Waste

When a shipment of hazardous waste is prepared for shipment from your site to the designated facility, the driver will leave you with a copy of the manifest; what then?  Read on to learn A Generator's Responsibilities After the Shipment of Hazardous Waste.

Ken Reilly I've been both a customer of and a competitor to Judge Ken Reilly and his RCRA/DOT training service.  I only just learned that he passed away in June.  Read here to learn of my experiences with Judge Ken Reilly.  Feel free to share your thoughts as well.

Who or What is a Person According to US EPA & US DOT?

A "Person" may be as big as a corporation or an agency of the government, or as small as you and me.  It's important for you to read this short article to learn if you and/or your employer are "Persons".  More...
