April 2012 - Volume 1

Greetings!

I'm back on track with this volume of April's newsletter, though I'm not so sure about volume 2.  Besides speaking at the Michigan Safety Conference on the 18th and the Iowa-Illinois Safety Council's annual conference on the 26th & 27th, I'm also redesigning my website.  The website may take awhile, so if you visit and have any problems, don't hesitate to contact me.
I'll also be running in the Waushara County Jailbreak 5K on the 28th. Be sure to find me and say hello if you see me at any of those events.

EPA Increases Transparency

Read more about the EPA's efforts to make information about its enforcement actions easily available to the public and other interested parties.  You can decide for yourself it it's a good thing.  I suggest regular training to preclude the need for any enforcement action.

Coating Facility in South Carolina Faces Fines and Training

Aerosol cans may be a hazardous wasteHow do you Dispose of Aerosol Cans?

Everybody generates them - just check with your maintenance or custodial staff - but what do you do with them?  All too many wind up in the trash which may be a violation of the hazardous waste regulations under RCRA.  A better option is recycling, but how?

The Number 10The title says it all.  Read it.  Print it.  Keep it for your reference.

Who is Responsible for the Securing of HazMat Packages on a Motor Vehicle?

Are you a Co-Generator of Hazardous Waste?

Little understood, but very important.  If you have contractors perform work at your site whose actions may generate a hazardous waste, are you confident they are in compliance with the regulations?  You could be held responsible if they are not.
