Greetings!
The third quarter of 2011 is winding down and we are rapidly approaching the Fall/Winter holiday season. My upcoming schedule is a mix of Public Training Events, On-Site Training, and specialty speaking engagements (see right). I also plan to continue to deepen my knowledge of the regulations and hone my training skills. My wish for you is that you continue to grow in your skills as a professional in what remains of the year. I hope some of the information below may be of use to you. |

DOT's Enhanced Security Requirements
October 1, 2011 is the one year anniversary of the effective date of revisions to the above regulations. If you were subject to the regulations prior to 10.1.10, you may not be any longer. If you are still subject to the regulations, your requirements for your DOT Security Plan and In-Depth Security Training have changed. More...

Too Big to Fine?
Any company involved in the generation, handling, treatment, or disposal of hazardous waste is subject to inspections and fines by US EPA and state agencies. In this case Clean Harbors of Braintree, MA was subjected to fines and penalties totaling ~$1.7 million. More...

How Does US EPA Define a "Closed Container"?
Short answer, it doesn't. The regulations are best thought of as a performance standard that clearly states what US EPA hopes to accomplish - containers of hazardous waste are vapor-tight and spill proof - without specifying the exact means to accomplish these goals. This leaves it up to the generator to determine what is acceptable to the US EPA, and just as important, to its state agency.More...

An Extension of the On-Site Accumulation Time Limit for Generators of F006 Hazardous Waste
One of the greatest burdens of maintaining compliance with the regulatory requirements of a Large Quantity Generator of hazardous waste is the on-site accumulation time limit of 90 days or less. Some generators of F006 wastewater treatment sludge from an electroplating operation may receive an extension of no more than 180 days of on-site accumulation. More....

The Use of the Identification Number on a Placard
We commonly see the identification number displayed on placarded vehicles of tank trucks and closed cargo trailers. Did you know there are times when an identification number is required, but cannot appear on the placard. If you offer a hazardous material (including a hazardous waste on a uniform manifest) for shipment in commerce, you must know this restriction. More....

Upon returning from Columbia, SC recently I was asked by a family member what I thought of the city as they were considering to relocate there. I told them the road from the airport to the hotel seemed nice. If you come to one of my public events, I hope you are able to extend the business trip into a short vacation for yourself and your family. There is more to a city than its airport.
