EPA and DOT Regulatory Update

Greetings!

While the air emission inventory and the hazardous waste report are behind us, the Toxic Release Inventory or TRI looms ahead with a due date of July 1st.  While managing all your other responsibilities, don't forget to maintain compliance with US EPA and US DOT training requirements.

Are you a HazMat Employer? Unloading Truck
In order to determine if the DOT hazardous material regulations apply to your facility, you must first determine if you or your employees meet the DOT definition of a HazMat Employee.  Take this one question survey to find out.

DOT Report Indicates "Human Error" is Leading Cause of HazMat Incidents.

The report:  Top Consequence Hazardous Materials by Commodities & Failure Modes for the years 2005 to 2009 found that "Human Error is still the most often cited failure mode across all transportation phases..."
It also reported that "Nearly all HazMat fatalities...occurred during either rail or highway transport."  And, "The vast majority of major injuries (85%) were associated with these two modes..."
The best way to prevent HazMat incidents caused by human error is to institute an effective training program for all HazMat Employees at your facility.

It's Time to Submit an Updated 8700-12 Form

The 8700-12 form is a good way to update your facility's information as a generator of hazardous waste with your State environmental agency.  Click here for an online form and instructions.

What Hazardous Waste Training Requirements are You Subject to?
It is important for any commercial or industrial facility to determine its hazardous waste generator status and the applicable training requirements.  Take this three question survey to determine your status.
