Healthcare Reform Simplified
January 1, 2014 marks implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Individual Mandate that requires each person to purchase health insurance or be taxed. Pre-existing medical conditions will no longer be a factor, and policies will be guaranteed issued. Read about these important facts:
- January 1, 2014 begins the Individual Mandate, where you can either elect health insurance or pay $95 or 1% of your taxable income, whichever is the greater of the two. (Each year, the tax on uninsureds will increase.)
- You have choices: Ohioans can purchase health insurance on the National Exchange/Market, privately with health insurers, employer-sponsored group insurance, or be uninsured and pay tax penalty. Rest assured, CFI is here to help you navigate through each option to choose which is best for you.
- Open Enrollment for the National Exchange/Market is October 1, 2013-March 31, 2014.
- If your income is 133%-400% within the FPL (Federal Poverty Level-$14,856-$44,680 single/$30,656-$92,200 family of 4), you will be eligible for a governmental subsidy if you purchase your health insurance through the National Exchange/Market.
- If you are offered affordable health insurance through your employer, you are not eligible to purchase insurance through the National Exchange/Market.
- The National Exchange/Market will offer plans with essential health benefits and free preventative care.
