 The I.N.F.O.
From the Desk of Miss Ek

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

It seem like it was only yesterday we were celebrating the start of a new school year, and here we are at the end of the first academic quarter already.

The faculty and staff are grateful for the show of support at our parent meeting held last evening to address the Pastoral Preliminary Strategic Plan regarding Catholic Schools. All of the comments and concerns will be submitted to the Diocese. If you were unable to attend the meeting, you still have the opportunity to submit confidential feedback of your own at http://eriercd.org/plannning.asp.

Parent involvement in our school has given us much to be thankful for at OLP. The Athletic Association, School Advisory Council and the Family and School Association provide support for our school community and its programs for students in countless ways. Volunteers in many facets of the school life help us maintain a safe and caring environment. Whether it be organizing a Grandparents Day, coaching, leading a scout group or lending a hand in the cafeteria, it makes our partnership with you stronger.

As you know, we will have our Parent -Teacher Conference days on November 23rd and 24th.  We regard this conference as a most valuable event in your child's educational program. This occasion provides an important opportunity to affirm the good work and set goals for growth academically and personally. The students in grades five through eight will attend the conference. This approach gives ownership to the student as to what they need to do to be a successful student. While you visit, make sure to visit the book fair.

The holiday season is approaching quickly. The different grades are discussing and planning for their annual Advent Project to reach out to organizations in the area. FSA is promoting "The Caring Tree" to aid people in the school community during the holiday season. Many charities have benefited from the generosity of our school. Teachers and parents working together to teach children at a young age about stewardship is evident at OLP.

On behalf of Father David, the faculty, staff and students I wish you a happy Thanksgiving.

Blessings,
Miss Mary Beth Ek

Advent Wreath Lighting
The lighting of the Advent wreath is a long-standing Catholic tradition. The candles remind us that although we are journeying to the darkest nights of the year, Jesus has brought light and life into the darkness.
Our tradition here at OLP has included offering all families the opportunity to assist with the wreath lighting during the weekend Masses throughout Advent. We will be continuing that tradition this year and invite you to prayerfully consider volunteering.
Sign-up sheets will be in the vestibule from Saturday, October 31, 2015, through Sunday, November 22, 2015.
The candle lighting is a very simple, yet significant, part of our Advent journey. Please consider being a part of this OLP tradition.
