Let Your Voice Be Heard ~ Diocesan Changes
Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Friends,

In the links below you will find the two documents from The Diocese of Erie about the changes announce last week.

The first document is a letter for the parents of Our Lady of Peace School children.  The second is the news release that the Diocese released to media outlets.  Please take the time to read each of these carefully.

Keep in mind that this information is being considered as the preliminary plan.  The final plan will be announced in February of 2016.  Any concerns or feedback you would like to offer can be directed to the website listed on the second page of the parent letter or by clicking HEREPlease feel free to use this avenue as it is the only way your voice can be heard.

Blessings,
Miss Mary Beth Ek

Parent Conferences
We are beginning to schedule conferences for November 23 and 24, 2015. Conferences will be scheduled Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Students will not be in school Monday and Tuesday.  Please click the link below and complete the bottom and return it to school by Tuesday, November 10, 2015, so that we can schedule your conferences at a time that is convenient for you.

Please be aware that because of work schedules, some families must have evening appointments. If it is at all possible for you to have a morning or afternoon appointment, it would be most appreciated.  Once the schedule is completed, we will send you the form indicating the exact time of your appointment(s).

Dismissal Safety
The staff of OLP, with the help of parish volunteers, works hard to make arrival and dismissal safer for everyone.
If your child is a car rider, please help us promote safety by remembering to follow these rules in the afternoon:
  • You must park in a lined parking space.
  • You must walk up to the coned area if front of the main entrance of the building and pick up your child.
  • Children are not permitted to leave the coned area without an adult to accompany them.
  • If you do not go directly to your car, please make sure that your child remains with you.
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Cafeteria Helpers

Mothers, fathers, grandparents, friends, please remember to check the school lunch calendar (link on the left side of the newsletter) for the day(s) you are assigned to help in the cafeteria.  Arrival time is 10:30a.m. and finish at approximately 1:00p.m.

If there is a problem with the day(s) you are scheduled, please call the school at (814)838-3548 and let the cafeteria know.  We will be happy to try to accommodate you.

Thank you,
Mrs. Mary Ann Malizia

HELP! COACHES NEEDED - 2015-2016 P.L.A.Y Basketball

P.L.A.Y. is an 9 week + playoffs youth basketball league for boys grades 1st - 4th and girls grades 1st through 6th. Registration closed last week, and we have more than 75 kids registered to participate. We try to keep the teams small so we can provide more touch time and playing time for each child. With such great participation, we need more coaches especially at the first and second grade level.

This program does not work without the help of our parent coaches. The time commitment is 2, 1-hour practices a week in November & December and 1 practice per week plus 1 game in January & February. Have a buddy you want to coach with? Just let us know. If you signed your child up for P.L.A.Y, please consider volunteering your time to coach.
Contact Stephanie Spence by October 29th with any questions or to volunteer: stephspence@roadrunner.com
or at 814.572.3972.

OLP Cherub Choir
Do you have little ones who love to sing? OLP is putting together a Cherub Choir for children in preschool to 5th grade. We will rehearse on 11/12, 11/19, 12/3, 12/10, and 12/17 from 6-6:30p.m. in the church. We will perform before the 5:00p.m. mass on Christmas Eve. This will be a fun experience for everyone and the more the merrier, so please invite a friend to come! To register and for any questions call Christina Murnock at 882-1017 or email at murnockfarm@yahoo.com

Advent Wreath Lighting
The lighting of the Advent wreath is a long-standing Catholic tradition. The candles remind us that although we are journeying to the darkest nights of the year, Jesus has brought light and life into the darkness.
Our tradition here at OLP has included offering all families the opportunity to assist with the wreath lighting during the weekend Masses throughout Advent. We will be continuing that tradition this year and invite you to prayerfully consider volunteering.
Sign-up sheets will be in the vestibule from Saturday, October 31, 2015, through Sunday, November 22, 2015.
The candle lighting is a very simple, yet significant, part of our Advent journey. Please consider being a part of this OLP tradition.
